Good morning ...
This is a follow-up message to the one Gary sent out regarding the group's Organizer position. As some of you know, I am not a full-time resident of Flagstaff. Also, as he mentioned, my primary interest is in hiking, which is why I joined the group initially, though I have enjoyed attending a few non-hiking events also.
We learned something about the Meetup dues that led me to offer to be the Organizer for the group when Gary decided to step down for a while. Meetup dues are tied to the person and not to the group. Meetup allows an Organizer to support up to three groups for the same dues amount. Since I was already paying Organizer dues, I offered to be the Organizer for the Flagstaff Activity Group so there would be no cost to Gary or anyone else other than for special events that might include a charge.
There is really no difference in the role of Organizer and Co-Organizer, which Gary has retained, other than dues can be paid only by the Organizer. I do not think of this as "my" group, nor do I think of it in terms of "having taken over" the group. I am just a member who will post some events and attend some events as they are available. I plan to continue to defer decisions about how the group operates to the other organizers.
With that explanation, I would like to echo what Gary said. In order for this group to remain active with lots of events, we need others to put events out there for the group and be willing to be the host for them. I will be adding some hiking events when the trails come out from hiding under the snow. I am asking the rest of the group to post events in which you have an interest and are willing to have a group join you.
If there is anything I can do to help, just send me an email and I'll do what I can. You can also contact any of the other organizers and I'm sure they will help you also if they can.
Let's do our best to keep this Meetup group alive and filled with lots of activities for all the members.
