This is our open drinks and discussion night, it is intended to be adult-centric but children are welcome - see more on this below.
This Friday Meg Leander, from the local non-profit organization Further Shore, will give us a presentation on the Five Wishes. Five Wishes is a national advance directive created by the non-profit organization Aging with Dignity.
"Five Wishes is an easy to use legal document written in everyday language that lets adults of all ages plan how they want to be cared for in case they become seriously ill. Five Wishes helps you express how you want to be treated if you are seriously ill and unable to speak for yourself. It is unique among all other living will and health agent forms because it speaks to all a person's needs: medical, personal, emotional and spiritual. Five Wishes also helps structure discussions with your family and physician."

This is an adult-centric event but children are welcome and childcare can be arranged. Besides the likelihood that the conversation we boring for most of a younger audience, this also means that the discussion will be unrestrained. We try very hard to create an atmosphere that feels very safe for authenticity. We don’t censor topics or language at most of our events. Some of us choose to shield our children from these kinds of discussions while other of us prefer to have our children participate. Either way your kids are welcome. A separate space for the kids to play can be created, away from “grownups” and their blah, blah, blah but if you want your kids to participate or you see other kids there, don’t let that restrain your authentic exploration of whatever comes up.
