For September, we will be discussing "Candide" by Voltaire.
This book is in the public domain, so it's free if you have an e-reader, phone, or computer. If you buy it, it's not expensive. The book is concerned with the value of critical thinking and the discouragement of fanciful beliefs, not just because they're silly, but because they're often harmful. Rather than a stern pronouncement of philosophy, it's a diverting piece of fiction. You can easily read it in an evening or a couple of hours, as it's only 120 pages.
As you read, mark up your copy - take notes - write down the things you want to talk about.
I suspect this will be a small, quiet gathering, but I'd like to make it more exciting by turning it into a dinner discussion. I will coordinate it when the time comes, and we'll hold the first one at my place.
DO NOT go to the front door. I am around to the right and back of the garage.
