Holiday Toy / Gift Drive for Families in Need - Gift Wrapping Extravaganza!

Kristine had a wonderful idea for this years Toy / Gift Drive.

She said New Frontiers is putting together food boxes for two needy families. They used to do toys and such, but can only afford to do food, soap, shampoo, cleaning, and paper products this year. She suggested that those wanting to participate could ‘adopt’ a family member. So let's join together to add toys/misc. gifts for the family members. (gift cards would be great as well.)

If you’d like to join in and help, please post a comment on how you’d like to contribute, or which family member you’d like to adopt.

Thank you all, this can be a wonderful way to see that these families have a great holiday season!

Please bring something to drink. Warm drinks suggested (perhaps with a dash of something extra toasty if you'd like) and we can make some popcorn, put a movie on and participate in gift wrapping fun! Anyone is welcome to join us, help out, or just show your support and hang out with friends!

If you can't make the wrapping party, please contact Kristine and I and we can see the families receive your gift.

The two families in need are as follows:

The first family has 3 boys – 15,11 & 8 and a girl 13 – the girl is in middle school and the oldest boy in high school and the 2 younger at PdH. Mom has a job and Dad works construction sites.

The second family has a 6yr old girl and a 3 year old boy, Grandpa is having treatment for cancer and works from home – Mom is a part time student. Not sure what kind of cancer though, sorry.

Both families are appreciative of any help they receive!

Ok, for the 13 year old girl, I got hair bows, a necklace, bracelet and earrings and nail polish from Claire's. For the 15 year old boy, I got a World cup soccer ball for his age (I guess they come in age-related sizes). For the 11 year old boy, I got a really sturdy sled for sledding. For all 3 kids I got 2 tickets each with popcorn vouchers for Harkin's theater. If there's any duplicates, please let me know and I can change those before tomorrow.

I will bring Sharpie markers to write their age and gender on the wrapped gifts so the parents know which kid gets which gift.

I'd like to contribute something. Do we know what the kid's interests are?

Thank you so much Dave! The older kids and boys from the first family all love soccer. We could really use some gifts that would be good for the whole family... a game or something. Really appreciate your help!

Okay. I've picked up a brand new Wilson soccer ball for the first family. I'm sure if their soccer fans, they've maybe got a ball already, but my thoughts are that sports equipment tends to wear out, and this one's still in the box, never been kicked, all shiney and new. I do hope it goes over well.

We could maybe each bring a sheet (or roll) of wrapping paper, scotch-type tape, and scissors to help out with the wrapping.

I will also bring a set of boxes in several sizes that can be used to wrap gifts in (from as small as a gift card box to a robe size box).

I am bringing a Christmas music CD; some (child-appropriate) Dr. Demento Christmas songs, and other kid-friendly but not religious Christmas songs in case anyone wants some festive music. Kristine, do you have a CD player? if not, we have a boom box we can bring so let me know.

If anyone has a particular song request, let me know here or on the FB page and if I have a version of that, I can add it to my burn list.

I also have some cookies I can bring and/or hot chocolate mix. Let me know if that's all ok.

I think my family is coming too so that means six people all together may be coming.

    This sounds FUN!!!

I'll be there, but I don't understand what items are needed or how its being tracked. What should I bring?

we were hoping people would kind of claim a family member! so i'm going to go ahead and claim the 8 year old boy and will bring his toy! you can claim whoever else on the list, or do a gift that works for the whole family! thanks so much Ron!

I'll bring home made Darwin and Dr. Who cookies :) Also, if anyone wants to donate used toys, books or items in good shape, I'm sure the families would appreciate those just as much as new store bought items.

I updated the information for the families. I am sure they will love anything we can put together for them. :)

I would like to RSVP on behalf of my chocolate fountain since I can't come myself, but it makes no damn sense to have a party with no chocolate fountain. I'll watch the event page to see what's still needed as we get closer to the date. I can contribute whatever's left.

Is there anything Grandpa needs, or would like? I would "adopt" him, but have no idea what to get for him. Kristine, you can tell me at work tomorrow if you can get any info at all.
