Religion Exploration for Skeptics

We're going to wrap up Numbers and perhaps watch a film!

*Note: Come with any questions or comments. - Also you don't have to read this weeks chapters if you're already familiar and just want to listen or discuss.*

We'll start by discussing the chapters we've read, with a discussion about parts of interest, what message is trying to be sent, and perhaps, the moral of the story.

This can be a way to become better informed and perhaps understand why people hold on so strongly to their various belief systems. We can go through the Skeptics bible as well and see where that leads the conversation.

What we're hoping to accomplish:

An exploration of faith based mythologies. Example of discussions we might have regarding various religions: What are their core beliefs? How are they similar or different from each other? Why do humans continue belief systems as they do?

If there is enough interest I thought we could invite various religious leaders to come speak to us on occasion about their beliefs in a Q and A session. Just a few I was thinking of exploring would be:

Christianity

Mormonism

Judaism

Jehovah's Witnesses

Islam

Buddhism

Hinduism

Native American religions

Wicca

Candomblé

We could invite others of course, and if we did get through what we want of the bible, we could explore other texts.

Any suggestions and ideas are greatly appreciated. I'll continue to repeat the meetup as long as there's interest.
