I am probably going to do a hike to the Inner Basin of the San Francisco Peaks this Sunday. You are welcome to join me. The trees are beautiful during this time of year and I want to do this hike before the first big snowfall. It is 8.5 miles roundtrip and should be about a 4 hr hike. Bring appropriate layers because it starts at 8,700 ft and gains almost 2,400 ft. However the views are absolutely worth the hike.
Drive northeast of Flagstaff on US 89 for 12 miles to FR 420 directly across from the Sunset Crater turnoff. Turn left (west) for about 1/2 mile, turn right (north) on Forest Road 552. Turn right at the Lockett Meadow sign and continue to the trailhead.
