*** CANCELLED *** Shoot the Full Moon rising between the Sunshine Skyway ***

The full moon will rise tonight about 7:35 PM between (or slightly to the left of) the two large spans of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.  This event doesn't happen very often, sometimes not even every year.  The sunsets at 7:30 so this offers one of the very best opportunities to photograph the rising moon and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

After the event, an optional visit to Island Grill & Raw Bar on Terra Verde is also happening. This will give members an opportunity to chimp and view other's images of this rare event.

I can't be extremely accurate in predicting the best spot to shot the moonrise.  I may be off as much as 50 yards so be prepared to move your camera/tripod in a hurry.  We'll have about 20 minutes to capture the best reflections etc, so come prepared with fresh batteries and cards and shoot LOTS of images, this may not happen again for a few years.

The meetup starts at 7:00 PM so that I can give instruction on how to set your cameras for best White Balance, Exposure Mode, ISO, Drive Setting, Auto Focus Setting etc.  Arrive late and I'll do my best to bring you up to speed, but no promises.  You will need a tripod to best capture this scene.  Lenses in the 100mm to 300mm will offer the best view for close-ups of the bridge and a moderate wide angle will capture more of the bay and bridge.

My photos were bad. Out of focus at that distance but there probably 5-10 folks so hopefully they got some good shots

Mine were pretty bad too... It was the wind, couldn't keep the tripod from moving, doesn't matter glad I went, it was a beautiful sight.

Tonight's event is canceled due to the threat for severe weather, including lightning. Please exercise caution if you intend to still try to shoot the moonrise tonight.

Please watch the weather for your route to the park. There is a 60% or higher chance of rain for the area this afternoon and evening. If we can get this in, we will. But everyone's safety is my primary concern.

There is currently rain in the area and I'm watching the radar and forecasts closely. If need be, I'll cancel the event tonight around 5:30. I'll send emails, post a comment and change the title of the event to show the cancellation. Some members may choose to go regardless of the weather. If you do go, the bets location will be on the Gulf Pier, looking towards the Skyway Bridge. This is a very exposed location and please exercise extreme caution. Several years ago, Theresa and I had to seek shelter in the snack bar on the pier during a severe storm that came in off the gulf. It was not a fun experience.

Thanks Jeff, I have a new word in my vocabulary... " to chimp" . I don't think Webster's will ever add it but thank god for wiki and urban dictionary to help me understand that a chimp wasn't coming along for dinner. See you Thursday..

What do we tell the gate keeper when entering the park since we are staying after dark?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
