6th Annual Gaspirilla Criterium

&

Cigar City Brewing Festival

Tampa’s 6th annual Gaspirilla Criterium+Cycling Festival presented by Cigar City Brewing Invasion Pale Ale is here and it’s bigger and better than ever.

What’s a criterium? It’s a bike race – but not just any garden-variety bike race. Criterium-style bike racing uses a short course – in this case,  just one kilometer – and riders circle the course multiple times at incredibly high speeds – over 35 miles per hour. Because the riders follow a short course, criterium – or crit – races are especially spectator-friendly, and those who line the raceway can expect to be “wowed” by the sheer speed of the colorful athletes as they fly past.

More than 500 cyclists will take part in both professional and amateur races, and spectators who want the best view of the race and its finish line can buy a VIP ticket which guarantees them a spot in the hospitality tent. VIP ticket holders enjoy other amenities including complimentary food and beverages and special perks, like autograph sessions with professional cyclists.

More details will be released as we get closer to the event.  This is the 5th year FCCP has attended the event and members that attend are always surprised how much fun this event is.  Many of our members also participate in this event.  Please come out and help cheer them on!  Don't be surprised if you sell a few photos from this great series of races as racers are alway looking for great photos of them racing.

As predicted it rained. Are we going to be able to post the photos? I don't see the site yet.

The forecast for rain is at least 50% all day increasing to 60%+ this afternoon. If you're going I suggest bringing rain gear and plastic garbage bags to put your camera/camera bag into. There will be few places to seek cover indoors. Expect to get wet is the theme for the day :(

I'm not canceling the event, I'll be there to shoot a few races in the afternoon that some friends are in. I will not be there this morning at 10 AM because I don't want to be wet most of the day. Call my cell or TXT me at[masked] if you want to catch up with me in the afternoon.

Watch the weather folks. This is an outdoor event and most of the businesses are closed due to the weekend.

Parking is free on the streets north of Kennedy. You can also park in the William Poe garage on North Ashly Drive.

Hopefully I can find parking and be on time for once :)

Sounds like fun and I might be able to make it! Where is a good place for parking for this event? Are there pay lots or garages nearby or is it all street parking and meters and walking a zillion miles? Just need to plan ahead!

Sounds like a lot of fun and will be a new experience for me.
