Greetings,

Happy Labor Day from all the staff and volunteers at FCCP! I'll keep this very brief but a few important items and updates for the week.

The Big Announcement is the opening of our first FCCP International Photo Contest. The contest is open to everyone and there is no limit to the number entries per member.  There are four different categories to enter, Wildlife, People (portraits/candid), Landscape (scenery), and Open (everything else).  Each category is judged separately and not by just any old judge.  We're finalizing the judges this week, because some are currently traveling, and the details will be reveled this week.  But think some of the biggest names in photography.

Did I mention the prizes include over $5,000 in cash and prizes ? Each category winner will receive a $250 cash prize, each category second place will receive $150 cash, and each category third place will receive $75 cash.  Judges have the discretion to award honorable mentions and each will receive $50 cash.  All the winners will receive a free one year FCCP Supporter Membership.  Additional prizes are being provided by SmugMug, Focal Press, Black Rapid and more.  When it's all over we expect to be giving away cash and prizes valued at over $5,000.

Oh, almost forgot, the Grand Prize Winner will receive $500 cash and prizes valued over $700. That's right $500 cash and additional prizes valued at over $700.  Prizes include a SmugMug Business Account (to help them get started selling their photos), a year of training from lynda.com and much more.

You don't agree with the judges choice, well we know how you feel, so know you have a vote! There is a People's Choice Award with cash and prizes worth more than $500.  The voting begins at the start of the contest.  The sooner you enter the more chances you'll have get you images seen and the more votes you might get.

Who owns the photos entered?  You do!! This is not a rights grab.  Your photos are your photos, plain and simple.  We (FCCP and Contest Host) reserve the right to use images only for promotional purposes of future contests, in newsletters announcing winners etc.  We want to be able to show off past winners.  We will not use your photos for any other commercial purpose.  Complete contest rules are here.

You can enter the contest here. The cost is just $15 per entry and $1 per vote in the People's Choice category.  All entries are via upload online.  No other submission options are available.  The files must be in JPEG format and 6 MB or smaller in size (also don't use special characters in the name of the file).

The contest judges and prizes will be updated in the next week, so stay tuned and thank you for your support.

My must see webinar this week is by the extraordinary photographer David Duchemin.  His FREE webinar is entitled: Going Pro, More Ideas from Vision Mongers.  A nomad, vision monger, unashamed do-gooder, and sometimes author, David’s photography is online at Pixelatedimage.com. Next Saturday starts our FREE week of access to lynda.com lynda.com is one of the premiere training sites on the web.  She offers training on over 1400 topics including camera models, software and even interviews with some of the greatest photographers of the last 50 years.  You'll have complete access to over 80,000 individual videos.  You can read the complete details and RSVP to receive the code for FREE access here.

Did you recently purchase a LivingSocial or AmazonLocal voucher for a Beginning Digital Photography Workshop/Bootcamp? We have a Bootcamp this Saturday with a few spots left.  You can use your voucher and register for the Bootcamp here.  You can see the schedule for September, October and November Bootcamps here.  The schedule for January, February and March will be online and open for registration the first week of December.
