FCCP Weekly Update from the Director

From: Jeff D.
Sent on: Tuesday, September 25, 2012 3:25 PM

Another update with some really exciting news and all the best happenings for the upcoming week.

Still a few openings for this Sunday's Beginning Digital Photography Bootcamp! The Beginning Digital Photography Bootcamp/workshop is our most popular class with about 50 members taking the class every month.  We have several opening for this Sunday's workshop, so if you have a LivingSocial, Groupon, AmazonLocal or Google Offers voucher, dust it off and bring it this Sunday and get jump started with this amazing workshop.  It includes a FREE download with class notes, videos, and other instructional material.  Complete details and the signup are here.  If you can't make this Sunday, the Saturday, October 6 workshop has a few openings as well.  We look forward to seeing you in class.

Have you got an hour tomorrow from 2 PM to 3 PM? If so, then plan on spending it with Joe McNally when his presents his webinar, A National Geographic Tale, The stories and strategies behind the iconic National Geographic Images.  Joe has been a NG contract photographer for almost 30 years and tomorrow he'll reveal the stories and secrets behind some of the most iconic images from Nat Geo over the last 3 decades.  Do not miss this Live webinar, if possible.  OK, I missed it.  No worries, the webinar is being recorded and I'll email all the RSVPd members the link to the recording when it's available.  Please follow this link to register and get the email update on the link to the recording.

Can you spare just a few hours to help a neighbor? This Saturday is CareFest 2012 and we still need photographers for this event.  There is not cost for this event and you'll get FREE food and drinks in the morning and afternoon.  We still need photographers throughout Tampa Bay and the commitment can be for a s little as just an hour or two.  If you have questions please contact Jeff at[masked] and we'll get you all set to help a neighbor!  You can learn more about the event and RSVP here.

Hey, where are all the PhotoWalks? They're still there, but they're not as easy to find with all the workshops, webinars etc.  Thursday morning we're at Chestnut Park for deer and migrating birds, Friday around lunch we're in Clearwater for the Super Boats, Sunday morning we're shooting the Moon set in Clearwater and much, much more over the next week.  Please check out the complete calendar here.

Do you want to know the best way to improve your photography? Take a class, workshop, bootcamp, webinar etc.  You can read books, visit websites, read online forums, but nothing will advance your photography skills more than an in person educational opportunity!  So what is the second best way?  You really want to know? Look at photographs made by the masters and you know what?  We've got two events coming up that will do just that.  October 7, join FCCP for a visit to the Tampa Museum of Art to see a retrospective of Henri Cartier-Bresson.  Here is the link to RSVP and learn more about the show.

The second opportunity is November 30, when FCCP visits the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts for an opportunity to view Dorothea Lange's depression era photographs that helped change not only America, but the world!

October 1 kicks off the FCCP International Photography Contest. You can see learn more and also upload your entries here.  FCCP is giving away over $5,000 in cash and prizes to the winners and we've assembled some outstanding judges, Arthur Morris, Bob Krist, Clyde Butcher, and Jill Enfield.  Watch for the BIG announcement next week!  But FCCP members can get a jump on the "competition" by entering now!

Thanks for reading and I look forward to shooting with you soon!
