This is just a brief update on the great upcoming events and activities. The Center has also finished several key events and a progress report is below as well. But first, here are some great events that everyone can participate in over the next few weeks.
The big event for the month is this Saturday. The Great Code Cracking Camera Quiz Caper is this Saturday in Dunedin at 9:30 AM. You can think of this as a photo scavenger hunt that will require your photography skills and test you photography knowledge. No Special equipment of skill set is required. In fact, the only thing required is the desire to have a great time! Complete instructions and some strategies will be given to all participants. You can learn more about the event here. Last year we had prizes donated by Manfrotto and this year we'll have prizes as well. Details will be provided the morning of the event. Here are a few quotes from FCCP members that did last year's event:
"That was without a doubt the most fun I've had since joining the club. And I have been having fun since I joined " - Russell D.
"We had a blast!!!!! ... I can't wait for the next one!" - BreAna C.
Almost last chance to shoot the sunset from Clearwater Main Library is tomorrow night. Believe it or not Daylight Savings Time is almost here, which means only a few more chances this year to enjoy this great opportunity. I've done this PhotoWalk a couple of dozen times and I see something different to shoot every time. Afterwards everyone is welcome to join us at Tony's Pizzeria, just a block away. Here are the details and I hope to see your there!
Can't make it to a PhotoWalk, but you want to improve your photography? Then a great way to participate and improve your photo skills is to join one of the Weekly Assignments. It's really easy, go here and signup, then go shoot a photo that you think fits the topic this week: ABSTRACT. Upload your best ABSTRACT photo by January 30 and leave comments at the Weekly Assignment Gallery for your fellow shooters. Not only are the assignments a lot of fun, but you'll be amazed at how fast you start improving.
Are you up for a longer photography challenge? The next Virtual Photo Challenge starts this Sunday. The last one attracted over 70 members and there was a lot of learning and laughter going on. The challenge is to take a photo a day for 10 days in a row. Any camera can be used. You can take more, but you take at least one photo a day. There are no themes and you can wait a day or two to upload images, because we know life can get hectic. Here are all the details and RSVP info. Unfortunately, there are NO late registrations permitted for this challenge.
The Weekly Assignment and Virtual Photo Challenge are FREE for everyone, so join the fun. In fact nearly everything FCCP does is FREE for all members where you're a paid supporter or not. The only thing we charge for (other than admissions to events like the zoo, aquarium etc.) are our classes, workshops and mini-workshops. RSVP for an event and kickstart your learning today!
Back to back to back learning this weekend. Friday join out first In-the-Field Mini Workshop and learn Nighttime Photography in Tarpon Springs along the Sponge Docks. These Mini Workshops are free for FCCP Supports (paid membership) and open to all members. Students will learn how to take great nighttime photos, and learn what ISO to use, how to set in camera noise reduction and much more. Classes are limited to just 10 photographers and we've dropped the price too! Details, signup and payment information is here.
Saturday join FCCP instructors for our new iPhone and Android phone photography class. Learn what are the best free photo apps and what paid apps are worth buying. Details on the class are here and seating is limited.
Sunday is our most popular workshop, Beginning Digital Photography. There are still a few openings and as always, if you taken the workshop in the past you're welcome to repeat the class for FREE. Full details and signup information are here.
Join us for a FREE PhotoWalk to Fort De Soto this Sunday. Fort De Soto is listed as one of the premiere birding spots in the country. We have many different migratory birds in the winter and even some rare visitors this year. So, set the alarm for an early wakeup and enjoy one of the best beaches and best birding spots this Sunday. Get the scoop and signup here. Note, even non birders will have a great time at the historic fort, piers etc.
Thanks everyone for making our recent LivingSocial and Amazon Local promotion a success. We didn't reach our goal of 300 students, but we came close, with well over 200 workshops sold. We have another promotion going on. Like our Facebook Fan page here and you'll be registered to win one of three $200 Gift Certificates. The promotion ends January 31, so don't delay.
What are you doing Sunday Night's from 8 PM to 9 PM? Like a lot of us, probably not much now that football is over. Well, FCCP has a cure for Sunday night boredom. Starting in a few weeks, FCCP will be on the radio hosting great interviews with the best in photography, giving out help and guidance in all things related to photography and much more. The show, Picture This, will be on WTAN-AM 1340 and other stations throughout the Greater Tampa Bay area. The shows will all be streamed and you can watch and listen LIVE on your computer. All the shows will be recorded and available for download shortly after each show. Jeff Donald, Ted Froberg and Lew Donald will take to the airwaves this February and each show guarantees a lot of laughter and learning so stayed tuned for further details as they develop.
Thanks everyone for reading and I look forward to shooting with you soon!
