I like the composition very much. Respectfully, a bit darker contrast of the gate would really make it pop.

So... more contrast? I sure struggle with this. Not really sure how dark the dark should be, etc.

If you shoot RAW files, I usually start by adjusting exposure if needed, and then blackening any blacks already there. I set the slider to '10'. I then adjust Vibrance and Saturation. Sometimes I also add vignette. I don't convert to greyscale in RAW either, I prefer to do it in PS. When I open the image in PS, I create a black and white adjustment layer then play with the sliders. You only effect individual colors that way. And I always use the adjustment layer instead of "greyscale" or image>adjustments>black and white. And sometimes I also add a gradient map adjustment layer, depending on if I still want deeper blacks in some areas. It sounds like a bunch of work, but it really only takes a few minutes.

I shoot RAW and use Lightroom fairly confidently. But I think I have a fear of losing too much detail in lowering my blacks. I signed up for the B&W class but never received the materials. When Jeff gets back, I'll find out if there is another class. Thank you though! I appreciate the help and will play with my sliders when I get home.
