Preening Lesson - Mallard mom & ducklings on Sodus Bay, Lake Ontario, NY. I love taking pictures of these birds every spring and summer at our cottage...sharing last year's photo, especially for Gabrielle...haven't been there yet this year.

Thanks Gabrielle. I thought you might like them. Mallards and Canada Geese are so common and tame here....you can take pictures of them and their numerous broods all spring and early summer. They swim along the shoreline all day long and come right up to the beach to get the corn we throw out for them and you can take photos to your heart's content. I must have a few hundred Mallard photos. Love these birds. :)

Haha... well...as it happens, I'm about to give this all up and move to Florida. I'll be living in Dunedin ...about a month from now...in the midst of packing now. But...we still have a place on Lake Ontario and hope to come back for summer visits.

thanks ....I'm sure I will, Gabrielle. The short visits we've had to the area over the years left me awed by the wide variety of birds...can't wait to shoot a few. :)

Great shot, Mikell. As a behaviorist, I am particularly amazed.

Thanks Gail (not Anne!!) ... I find their behavior wonderful too. The mother Mallards are very attentive to their young and teach them so much. They come to the shoreline and learn to dive for corn we scatter there too. It's great to watch the very young ducklings every Spring.
