New to hiking! Any suggestions on a good resource for beginners?

Jessica, one of the best resources for hiking books is Sandy Friend's website: http://www.floridahik... Sandy is an excellent author and hiker. For equipment, I suggest you try TravelCountry, a link to their website is on the left side of this page. Before you go out buying alot of stuff, though, just come to some of our meetups, discuss hiking with some members and get ideas for what you want to do and what you will need. When you decide what kind of hiking you want to do (i.e. backpacking, long-distance, day hikes, etc., pick Rodney Posey's brain. He's a very experienced resource and a great teacher.

I have a blog where I share my hikes with photos, descriptions, and maps. I also have some links there to other hiking blogs in central Florida. Feel free to take a look; you might see something that you like there. http://seizingthedrea...

Thank you Jackie and Wade for your kind comments. Even though it was a challenging day we all made it a positive day. We will reschedule this hike for Sunday April 27th. I hope to see everyone then on a better weather day.

In response to Wade, according to my chart, the GPS coordinates are[masked],-81.428048. If you're coming from I-4, it's Exit 101C, then west on SR46 for approx 5.5 miles. Just west of the Wekiva River. It will be your 1st right. Look for the birding sing, the FT logo sign and the Seminole State Forest sign.

Could you verify the meetup location with Google Map's What's Here option - place curser on map and then righ click and choose What's Here which provides GPS coordinates. For example, I used the following which I'm not sure of is the meet up location on the west side of the Wekiva:
