Kayak Weeki Watchee River

Kayak Weeki Wachee River: We will carpool from the Super Walmart in Ocoee LEAVING at 7:15am  Please let me know if you will meet us at the Walmart or the springs. If you are not carpooling, meet 8:30am at Paddling Adventures next to the Weeki Wachee River State Park amusement entrance, 6131 Commercial Way, Spring Hill, FL. The gate is in the same parking lot as the amusement area, just to the left.

Contact them to rent a boat:[masked]-8484. Rentals are $30.00 and reservations are required. Rentals often sell out early for weekends so reserve a boat sooner than later.

The trip is 5.5 miles on the river but plan to spend all day out as there are so many good places to stop and swim. Bring lunch, water, hat and sunscreen. This is a leisurely trip and we'll stop and swim often, swing from the rope into the river and just take our time and enjoy the day. We love to stop on the pretty sandbars, share food and enjoy each others company. No disposable items allowed on the river (no baggies, no Coke cans or chip packages. Put everything inside of tupperwear).

The exceptionally crystal clear water of the Weeki Wachee River allow us to see a variety of marine life. The State Park Preserve and private land tracks along the river allows you to see what native Florida looked like years ago by natives Indians and early explorers alike. In the Weeki Wachee River you will see a variety of fresh water fish including mullet, bluegill, bass, freshwater gar and a variety of other freshwater fish. Turtles and otters can be seen as you travel down the slow winding river with an occasional deer sighting mixed into your trip. Several species of birds can be seen including woodpeckers, humming birds, wood cranes, hawks and owls. Everytime we have paddled this river, we also have seen manatees!

We will take out at Rogers Park. Launch fee of $6.00 for your own kayak. (Rentals include shuttle). We will also carpool from the Super Walmart in Ocoee at 7:00 a.m. Contact Mary-Slater for more information. Public is invited. Moderate. Leader: Mary-Slater Linn[masked]  or [masked]

Mary and the rest of the group made us feel very welcome. I am delighted with the great photos taken by some members of the group. We had a great time and definitely want to do it again.

I will meet you at Paddle Adventures at 8:30 AM, and will be bringing my own kayak. Looking forward to a great relaxing day on the waters of Weeki Wachee.

I was wondering why we just do not make it a round trip on the water instead of shuttling cars, only 11 miles?

Hi Bill: Just reading this AFTER having send you an email 1 minute ago asking where you are meeting us! The reason for the 1 way trip is that the trip is listed as leisurely and easy and we stop often to swim and chat and eat. We also do the rope swings and make a day of going down river. When done, just pay the 5.00 at Paddling Adventures and have them bring you back to you car. It is easier than us trying to do shuttle and Rogers Park fills us early and parking is a hassle. Thus. tomorrows trip is all about enjoying a day on the river and we're glad you are coming! Mary-Slater

Hi Nancy, Mary Slater said there was only one other women riding on her own so I assume it is you. I am in Casselberry so where are you coming from? I just didn't want to ride by myself. If you were coming from the East we might meet up closer and I would drive?

    Ok.

    HI Nancy:
The reason for the early start time is the parks have a capacity and if we go any later, we might get locked out of the park.
