2013 Winter Wednesday Hiking Series - Hike 9 - Seminole Wekiva (Multi-Use) Trail

By Rachael Augspurg

Winter is a great time to hike in Florida. Each Wednesday in January, February & March there will be an 7-8 mile day hike on the FNST.  This is the 19th year this annual hiking series has taken place in Central Florida. The plan is to celebrate the Florida National Scenic Trail's 30 years, by hiking a portion of  the FNST each winter Wednesday between Ocala National Forest and Tosohatchee WMA.  We will start at the Wekiva River  and HIKE ACROSS SEMINOLE COUNTY  to celebrate the county's 100 years.  Then we will proceed south on the FNST to SR 50.  Then we will return to the Wekiva River and hike north on the FNST to the Ocala National Forest.

Mark your calendars and clear your schedule on Wednesdays so you can join the group and “HIKE ON WEDNESDAY!”

Hike 9: Seminole Wekiva (Multi-Use) Trail - Shuttle (8.5 miles). Hike the FNST and Seminole Wekiva Trail from Lake Mary Blvd to Lower Wekiva Reserve. Meet at the Lower Wekiva Reserve on SR 46.

I assume we carpool to Lake Mary. Can you tell me where we start on Lake Mary trail?

I heard you get jumped by ticks at Wekiva. Is that a real concern?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
