Kayak & Camp on the Wekiva River

See the Wekiva river as the early settlers saw it. Majestic clear water, NO civilization & lots of wildlife. We'll paddle the Wekiva about 3 hrs to Buffalo Tram Primitive Camp & spend the night. We will paddle back the next day. There are NO bathrooms. In addition, this is FL state park property - there is a $5.63 charge for ea. person. In addition, there is no access to this camp except by river. You can pay me or you can call Wekiva Springs St Park & pay over the phone [masked]) Kayaks or canoes are available for rent from Wekiva Island. Bring your own camping gear, grub, hat, sunscreen lotion etc. Call[masked] for questions or email [masked]

I truly apoligize for these changes. You can call & cuss if it makes you feel better :)

Sheryl did a great job leading us on this adventure! My equipment was not the best for the challenge, but Jackie and Sheryl provided great support and tips. Camping beside the river was wonderful!

So just to be clear,we have to put our camping gear, food, etc., on our kayak and get it to the campsite? I'm just wondering how much I can get into the kayak.

After much reluctance, I must bow out of this kayak/camping trip. I went out shopping in preparation for this as I've been looking to it for a long time. But I just moved and my place is a war zone. I have to tend to the new nest. Have fun everyone!

So I MUST move until March 10th. I'll try very hard to move a couple days earlier because I don't want to miss this trip at all. What will the food situation be like? Anyone bringing something to cook on (stove) or are we cooking at a camp fire? Is anyone cooking anything at all? Dry food? I think I have pretty much everything I will need to camp, but the food part is still a question. Thoughts everyone?

Can a beginner do this paddle? maybe I could just camp?

    January 12, 2013

    • SHERYL B.

Sorry Tina, the camp site can only be accessed from the river.

can we go just kayaking and not camp?

    January 11, 2013

    • SHERYL B.

Sorry, I did not see ur question earlier. Yes, of course, you can just tag along for the kayak portion of the trip & head back to the river after you have rested a bit. Just let me know either way please as there is limited room at the camp site.
