Karick Lake Full Moon Hike - 3.8 Miles

Nice leisurely 3.8 Mile hike around Karick lake with dinner at Gator's Cafe' in Baker.  Activity hosts are Wallis Mayo[masked] and Steve Duke[masked] and will be happy to answer any of your questions. Last year, we had over 50 hikers, adults and kids.  It was great to see the pinpoints of lights bouncing thru the woods.  This is one of the most popular hikes of the season.  Restrooms are available at both the south and north campgrounds.  Please plan your travel time to arrive in time for sign-in before we depart on hike.  See you there!

The moon sure knows it was pretty tonight! It was a great group of hikers making it around the 3.8 mile loop trail to enjoy the views and the company of each other.

A super night with great friends, old and new. Goodness, we had hikers from Pensacola, DeFuniak Springs, Santa Rosa Beach and all points in between. We had educators from five schools, Eglin folks, kids with their parents and grandparents. Man, it just does not get better than this.

Poor planning on my part caused some last minute rushing and as always happens when that is the case, everything just went wrong! To top it off, I just stopped by Walmart to buy my new Night Light on my way to the meetup; rushed to the counter, able to get checked out at the speed of light, got in the car, tore open the box to put in the batteries and the thing does not even work!!! :-(. I thought about running back into Walmart to get new batteries and then take a chance at coming to the meetup, but it would be near impossible to make it by 5pm, as I live in Destin. I was sooooo looking forward to walking in the dark as I have never done it. But I guess I have to sit this one out. Have fun and looking forward to meeting you all next time.

Steve, just send you a text to excuse myself. So sorry :-(.

Christine, I have no way of knowing based on the RSVPs. Last year we had 5 kids. Even if we had one, that would be just fine. Toddlers between 2-3 years would likely struggle and slow down mom and dad. I am going to try to bring my 9 and 11 year old grandsons if baseball does not conflict.

The entrance to Karick Lake South Recreation area is 6.5 miles north of traffic light in Baker on Hwy 189. Please plan your travel to arrive on time so that you do not miss the beginning of the hike.

I have spoken with David Creamer of the Forestry Service. He assures me that action will be taken to remove the beaver dam to lower the water levels. This should make the boardwalk more passable.

This is one of the most popular hikes each year. Please RSVP and get yourself a light with a red lens to protect your night vision.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
