How Are We Using Our Meetup Groups?

Informal discussion of how each FTA Chapter is using and benefiting from MEETUP? Each FTA Chapter using their MEETUP differently. Two have gone to using MEETUP as their only web page. Others maintain the older FTA web page plus the MEETUP page. Objective: informal brain storming among organizers and users.

All - Can't make the five hour drive to Ebro but would love to see notes or bullet points of the highlights. Might be useful in our decision making on what and how to post Meetups.

Interesting, we have always treated FTA training sessions as members only. We haven't posted any of the training on Meetup.

One of the ideas we have discussed for converting meetup members to FTA members is to post FTA-member-only training as meetup activities. For example, first aid, activity leader, sawyer, etc...

Finding a away to link activity participation to FTA membership is certainly worth discussing. I would think long and hard about not requiring a name and address. Let me think on this! To currently join FTA we do not require a background check nor do we check identifications. If someone provided us with an false ID, how would we know it? That said, what kind of person is willing to join FTA but isn't comfortable enough to provide there own name and address.

If we are providing activities that the new meetup members enjoy they normally want to join FTA. We need to figure a way to link FTA membership to our meetup membership. Some people don't want to use there real name but we can put there FTA membership # as a custom name, It would take some work to keep up with it.

How do we most effectively convert meetup members to active chapter participants and/or FTA members? I think we all agree that hosting interesting activities is a great start. Is there anything else can we do?

Men looking for women and women looking for like minded men sounds like things are normal. We're also seeing this but is much more. The Meetup format seems to have a high comfort level with those under 55. Meetup is only a tool to attract outdoorsy people. If a chapter does not have the activities that appeal to them they will move on!

Our Panhancle Chapter meetup page is our chapter web page. We have generated a lot of interest (~ 175 meetup members), and meetup has generated new FTA members, tho not as many as hoped. We're seeing all ages sign up. Some from other chapters, which is great. Our meetup group includes a LOT of single women of all ages, which we should somehow use as a selling point for single men! Maybe single ladies are looking for one more way to meet others, and for a safe way to enjoy the wilderness.

I was wrong we don't have most of the organizers, might ought to talk to them at the meeting next week.

I wont be able to make it Tom. I think I have this sight setup were only members can view content, and most of the organizers are members. I would set up an online event and start a thread so all can comment.
