For anyone who would like to hike a shorter distance, we can arrange to leave their vehicle at CR 283 (3 miles) or CR 83 (5+miles). This can be discussed on the morning of the hike as we will need to shuttle vehicles.

We don't need a car at Hwy 83 for a bailout. The trail crosses 83 right near our home in Blue Mt.

Porviding two hike options is a super idea. The longer hikes tend to intimidate anyone that isn't fully prepared or confident in their physical endurance. GOOD DECISION!!!!!

My 2 boys would like to do this, they are 10 and 9 yrs old. I'm thinking we would need to do the short version. How can we be transported to and from our car?

Barbie- We will shuttle cars. From the CR 395 trailhead, we will have you leave your car at the location you would like to stop and transport you to the start. Options are approximately 3 and 5 miles.

There is a $2.00 per person day use fee at Point Washington State Forest. This is paid on the honor system at the trailheads.

Also, we will have Chapter tee shirts available for sale on hike day for anyone who would like one. Cost $17.00. All sizes except small & 2XL. We all love our "Trail Hog" logo.

John & Marsha Hooten & George & Amy White, activity leaders for this hike, did a preview hike for this 8 mile trail on Monday, Jan. 23rd. The trail is flat and in good shape. It is a very nice trail with a variety of plant communities that include sandhills and flatwoods. These two communities are home to the longleaf pine, for which this trail is named.

We are going to reverse the direction of this hike. From the CR395 trailhead, we will shuttle just enough cars as necessary to the Satinwood Drive trailhead near Santa Rosa Beach and then hike eastward ending at the CR395 trailhead. Early bailout hikers will drop off their cars on either CR83 (2.2 miles) or CR283 (5miles) Estimated completion time is 5 hours including lunch and breaks.

When the hike is completed, please remember that some hikers will need to return to their cars at Satinwood Drive trailhead. Please offer to help with this if needed. Also, please remember the $2.00 per day per person day use fee at Point Washington. This will be a large turnout so everyone be patient and let us all have an enjoyable and safe hike. Arrive early.

You may have received an e-mail earlier tonight that said the venue for Saturday's hike at Point Washington State Forest has changed - call activity leader. I can assure you all details of this hike remain the same - no change. Meet at CR395 trailhead at 9:00AM. Only the map was revised to show the correct location. Sorry for any confusion.

Well, It's 7AM and I live in Shalimar. I'm heading out now and will be there in about 1.5 hrs. I have the phone number for John and George and intend to participate in the short version. If you can give me a call at 850-368-4626 and tell me where to park and who to look for off 331 that would be nice! I don't have a good map that pints well. Merci! Gracias!

Look at the directions in the description. From Hwy 331 S. turn left on Hwy 98 (going east). Take the second exit on the right on Hwy 395 (going south). Look for brown sign on the left, 1.1 miles, at entrance to Pt. Wash. St. Forest, Eastern Lake Trail parking lot. Look for FT members.

Actually, should have said the second light on Hwy 98 is Hwy. 395.

My wife and I really enjoyed the hike. 8+ miles is a good length for us to feel like we really got some exercise. The pace that the leader, George, maintained was good for us. We stayed towards the front of the line. Everyone did a good job managing the logistics of such a large group. Thanks for having the hike.

George and Amy did a wonderful job. All those helping, and everyone in fact, were friendly. It was great exercise, and I met some nice people. I teased George that I thought it was longer than 8 miles. I enjoyed my first hike.

George, Amy, John, Marsha and others did a fantastic job of coordinating a hike made more challenging by the fact that 65 hikers showed up, almost double what we usually have attending.

We had great weather and I thoroughly enjoyed the hike. It was flat and we moved right along the trail at a good pace! I'm trying to download my pictures. I have a new camera and I'm just learning how to operate it.

Many thanks to all involved. A very enjoyable hike through some lovely scenery. It was definitely shorts weather. Shame we couldn't have completed the full 8 miles but we know where the trail is now.
