"2011 Florida Trail Association, Vice President for Trails / Choctawhatchee Chapter - Trail Coordinator."
Local hiking trails are a place to step into nature and check our urban life style at the trailhead. Many hikers and backpackers have convinced themselves that they must travel 100s of miles to a distance trail in the mountains to hike. While Florida is short on mountains there is no shortage of nature viewing, camping, backpacking and hiking opportunities, unspoiled waterways and a place to disconnect from the urban world. Once on a trail your mind set quickly takes on a new reality. For proof, you must only look down; the treadway is full of footprints. Yes, a few are human but many are not! The track you though were that of a dog is really a family of coyotes. With experience you can separate the deer and wild hogs hoof prints. If you’re real observant you’ll see evidence of black bears, gopher tortoises and other woods creatures. Yes, there is another world that starts not far beyond the trailhead. The Panhandle is blessed with places to hike and enjoy nature.
