Annual Florida Keys Kayaking

I have made this an annual event. I kayaked the Keys in 2011 with Paddle Florida and was so awed by the Keys, I want to go back again in Feburary. While it still seems like winter in North Florida, the Keys is like early summer. 80's during the days and 60's at night. I want to see how much interest there is and find a suitable lodging. I chose Key Largo as the paddling is more diverse and rentals are the least expensive in the Keys. We can do day trips to anywhere in the Keys for kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, biking or sightseeing. From the research I have done, camping is not an option. All the State Parks are booked by the snowbirds and the private campground reviews say they are cramped, hot (no shade) and noisy. I have found many options from rental homes, resorts and motels.  This is for a full week, Saturday to Saturday, and if you wish to join us for a shorter stay, that is your choice. We can all get together and do paddles, bike ride, sight see and hike.

The weather forecast for next week is high 70's to low 80's and sunny/mostly sunny during the day and low 70's at night. Hopefully this type of weather will be moving north soon.

Cost depends on where you stay and how many people you share a place with. Rentals go from $700/week and up. Pop's Motel has Efficiencies 2Dbl beds for $900. A 2BR Condo for $1000/week is $250 each if you get 4 people to Share

Just as well I didn't sign up earlier. I will be swamped that week with kids and out of town guests for nephews wedding. Boy do I hate missing this.

Stayed in Key Largo last June. Love the divey, off the wall motels! Kayaked right in back of motel on Gulf side. Be glad to help find motels.

I have booked a condo as some friends from out of state that are coming down. Everyone needs to find their own lodging, I will be happy to help. Here are some websites and places to stay. I have found it is much cheaper to get at least 4 people to share a rental.
As far as camping goes, the State Parks are usually full of snowbirds.
I am staying at Ocean Pointe Condos in Tavernier

I am very interested in this trip! However, I would need an estimate on cost as money is tight these days. Any ideas?

I'm doing a week long trip to the Keys this month - hitting the Upper, Middle and Lower Keys. I pieced together short stays at 4 of the State Parks and will give you a report out / maybe some new options when I return!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
