For all of you that purchased from the store thank you its our way of giving back to local businesses. The 88 store has always accomodated the Florida Trekkers with parking and they do not charge us ever. So again thanks.

Glad to hear everyone had a great trip. I showed up but backed out due to the weather and the fact that this was my first overnight hike and my gear was to heavy. I am looking to buy a one person lightweight tent in the $150 or less price range, does anyone have a suggestion on a good one to purchase? Also another other tips or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Good times! Legs still sore in a good way. I still can't believe we got that fire going. Awesome.

Great hike with some challenges early and payoff at the end with a glorious Sunday hike with outstanding weather conditions and beauty on the trail, topped off at trail-end by the coldest, cheapest beer anywhere. I appreciated the company of several VERY experienced hikers and campers with deep, extensive real-world knowledge of gear, terrain, weather and conditioning. Most importantly, a great group of friendly and generous people.

Awesome trip... A little rain to make it a challenge at the beginning but a roaring fire, clear evening, and beautiful Sunday made up for it all. Great company as well!

For those hiking the Florida Trail for the first time it is a well marked footpath by orange blazes the size of a a dollar bill I the trees. When hiking as soo as you pass one you should be seeing another two blazes together means a turn also if hiking for a distance and you don't see any you need to backtrack to the last one seen. The path in the Ocala national forest is easy to follow. From rodman to lake deland is around 8 miles you will need to
Camp off trail and not at the campground y'all have fun
    Sad to be missing it

Jackie, Dallas, Marvin, and I are thru-hiking the Ocala, but we want to hike with you all to Store 88. We're shuttling cars down to Clearwater Lake. We hope to be back up to the Rodman Dam Campground by 9:30 or so. Don't wait for us, I guess. You can contact me at[masked]-5299. See you Saturday!

Excited about this weekend! Might get a chance to use some rain gear...but I guess you've got to test your tent and gear at some time or another...see everyone at Rodman!

I am interested in attending this meetup. Is there anyone who is travelling from(and back to) jacksonville? I need a ride and can share the gas.

(Only ride back to JAX would also be fine as Jackie is going one way)

It's probably best that you ride with Carine both ways, Piyush, since the group doing the 6 day trip may meet at another location to shuttle our cars.

Unfortunately I started to have some pain in my foot maybe plantar fasciitis. I have to cancel this hike.

This is my first overnight backpaking trip. Can anyone please help in lending me the backpacking gear for just this one trek?
(I would like to buy the gear after experiencing it atleast once)

    February 2, 2014

    • Donna

Hi not sure anyone among us has enough gear to outfit someone. Gear is very personalized and expensive but maybe someone in here can help you I don't loan out my personal gear.

I'm in for the week-long backpack. If anyone would like to carpool, I love at Jax Beach and can drive two others and their packs.

I would like to accompany you from Jacksonville (and can share the gas). This is my first meetup in this group. How does it sound? :)

This is also my first outing with this group. I plan on hiking thru on the 6 day backpack so I could only give you a ride one way and you would need to ride home with someone else...

Have to bail, as I have doubled up on a day hike and bike ride I do in the OAR MUG...going to miss you this time, but I am close to longer trail ventures in not-too-distant future. MJ.

Is everyone going to camp at Delancy or just on the FT?

    January 18, 2014

    • Max

I've never been, so will defer to the group. But looks like we replenish water at Delancy then head back to the trail and find somewhere to set up along the trail.

      January 19, 2014

    • Donna

Will sleep somewhere on the trail can get water at Delaney

      January 19, 2014

  • Max

I've never been so just want to clarify the shuttling. I'm assuming we meet at the dam at 9:00am. Then will coordinate shuttling some vehicles to the 88 store?

    January 19, 2014

  • Donna

Broke my hand in a cast for the next 6 weeks so sad I could not wait for hiking season and now out but will be there to help with shuttling

    January 17, 2014

Hello All, would love to join you, and wonder if a well-behaved, sweet older female dog would be appropriate for this size group: I have no trouble handling, or sharing her doggy-ness..(:Mark

You can camp at Lake Delancy East for $10, no permit required. It's about 300 ft from the Florida Trail. http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/ocala/recarea/?recid=32361
