Jamming in the Woods @ Secret Woods Nature Center

Secret Woods Nature Center has a monthly "Jamming in the Woods" event on the fourth Sunday of each month. The park ranger said that our group would be most welcome to join them.

The next Jam is on Sunday, August 25th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. It is not a structured event so we are free to come and play. There is an outdoor theater area as well as air-conditioned Julia Hall (in the event of rain)

The park is open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and there are guided nature walks on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

It is a lovely park if you haven't visited there recently. Free parking and no park admission.

Let's check it out on Aug 25th and do some ukulele jamming in the woods!

Actually, it worked out pretty well. We took turns playing and some songs worked and others didn't, but it still a nice afternoon and the regular jam people were very welcoming.

Realize that I wasn't saying they were wrong, nor were we,...it was simply that they are organized differently and we, as a group, were not fitting into the protocol... this could change if we were ever to return.

It was suggested to me that the ukulele meet up with the secrets woods people and we ought to stay away because nobody was allowed to play or sing along with other members as they played. I took their advice because when I saw Broward Folk Club sponsoring it, I knew it would not be pleasant If you want to play something their "circcle" doesn't approve or you are not a very very good player youu are not wanted at their activities.

What in the world happened? I couldn't make it on Sunday. I thought it was just our group (Holllywood) hanging out in the Park. I would never have believed another group would not have been welcoming or accommodating! I'm sticking with Penny Lane, if that's the case. And for Stu, I've got plenty of downloaded music I will print out for our next meet-up. Working hard on "Here Comes The Sun." Even figured out some fancy "plucking." See MY FRIENDS soon!

we are organized as a group, a collective... the Secret Woods people perform and present as individuals or at most duets... we faced the age old question of negotiating page numbers out of yellow or blue books. It felt a bit awkward.

To be honest, I would like to see more individual efforts as a part of our get-togethers and stretching our itinerary beyond these books.

Hi Bonnie: Definitely other acoustic instruments, so he should absolutely come and play with us!

Are there other instruments. My husband is learning to jam on the guitar. Is it only Ukes?
