F.U.N. Florida Ukulele Network has been invited to help raise money for the American Cancer Society at this year’s Relay for Hope event on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 6 p.m to 10 p.m. at Plantation Central Park, 9151 NW 2nd St, Plantation, FL
The MTS team would like us to host a “Christmas in April” ukulele sing-along at the Micro Typing Systems team booth.
This year’s Relay for Hope theme is “Tooning Out Cancer!” Each Relay, team selected a cartoon, comic strip or animated movie to represent their team booth.
The MTS team has selected Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, so they plan to decorate the booth site with a Christmas theme, hoping the magic of the holiday season of caring and sharing will translate even in April!
FUN will play several Christmas ‘sing-a-long’ songs including Rudolph, Holly Jolly Christmas, Jingle Bells, etc. as well as other favorite non-Christmas songs. We will come up with for our full Relay event set list as we get closer to the event.
Here is the basic event timeline as of now:
*FUN will start to play right after the Opening Ceremony approx. 6:15 p.m.
· Relay for Hope Opening Ceremony: 6:00 p.m.
· Survivors Lap: 6:30 p.m.
· Caregivers Lap: 6:40 p.m.
· Luminaria Ceremony: 9:30 p.m.
They are asking us to play “Amazing Grace” during the Luminaria Ceremony. Those of you who attended last year remember this as a very moving tribute.
If anyone would like to light a Luminaria bag on the night of Relay of Hope –in honor of or in memory of - a friend or loved one who has had cancer just give us that person’s name and I’ll make sure we create a Luminaria bag for them for the ceremony.
We hope you will join us for this night of fun, food, games and entertainment all to raise money for a great cause. Last year, FUN buskers raised $75 for the cause, so this year's goal is for us to break $100 in our uke case!
Please RSVP on our Meet-up page if you would like to play at the Relay for Hope Plantation event.
