Tour and Food Drive for "Sarasota in Defense of Animals" (SDA)

Sarasota in Defense of Animals is an organization that cares for more than 300 rescued animals in Sarasota.  They also run many great programs for animals locally including feral cat spay/neuter clinics and more.  http://sdasarasota.com/

They normally keep the ranch closed to the public because people tend to abandon animals on the property.  So this is a special opportunity for Florida Voices for Animals' members to learn about this organization. Come take a tour of  this beautiful ranch that is home to more than 300 animals......cows, pigs, bunnies, cats, geese, goats, horses and more.

Part of the reason for this tour is also to hold a food drive for the animals at the ranch. We kindly ask that you bring a bag of food for these wonderful animals. Here is their wish list: Cracked corn (feed store), Whole oats (feed store), Bunny pellets, Wild Bird seed, Pedigree Adult dog food and Purina cat chow.

VERY IMPORTANT:  If you would like to join us, please email Pam Driggs at her Meetup email (click on Members on top of page, then type in Pam Driggs under Find a Member, click on her name and send her an e-mail) or e-mail her directly at [masked] and she will give you the directions to SDA.   Also, we will be setting up a car pool for this all important day, so if would like to car pool let us know. The location for car pool will be announced at a later date.

This will be a fantastic day and we are so excited.  Hope you can join us.

Thank you, Pam and Diane, for coordinating this great event. It was a lot of fun. The sanctuary we visited is beautiful and the animals were wonderful. It was so much fun to feed the animals raw carrots, apples, bananas and peanuts. I loved seeing all the animals -- the pigs, piglets, goats, Dolly the cow, horses (Macaroni and Soy Cheese), ducks, geese, pigeons, cats, dogs and more. They are all so well cared for. I look forward to our next trip to the sanctuary.

Remember to bring fresh food snacks for the animals if you like.
Carrots, apples and etc. What other kind of snacks do they like Pam?

Be sure to wear boots or old shoes. It is VERY muddy because of all the rain. We are disappointed that the tour is happening after all this rain because things don't look as nice at the ranch now as they usually do. We hope you understand :))

How long will the tour be?

    September 22, 2013

    • Diane K.

The tour will be 1-2 hours long.

      September 23, 2013

    • Pam D.

Jackie, Diane is correct. The tour itself is only about 45 mins but people like to hang out and play with the animals. If you like you can also bring carrots, sliced apples and peanuts in the shell to feed them during the tour. thanks!!
