Day-trip by car and motorcycle to Haulover Beach, where nudism is totally legal

  • Dec 28, 2013 · 9:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

New members Ken and Kathy have invited all members to join them for a day at what is arguably the most popular legal nude beach in the country. They and other members will be going by motorcycle, while others will drive their cars, ideally in one big convoy. Most will be leaving from Ken and Kathy's home in Bonita Springs, starting at 9 AM. The plan is to drive toward Haulover via US 41, stop at the halfway point for a bathroom break at Big Cypress National Park, and stop again for a quick burger lunch just before reaching the beach. Ken and Kathy will be spending only three or four hours at the beach before heading home via I-75 (Alligator Alley), but others can stay as long as they like.

Carpooling for long drives like this is very practical, and more fun than driving alone. That's why we created long ago a ride-sharing page on the club's web site. Sharing rides is an especially good idea when going to Haulover, where parking lots are often crowded. Click on this blue link to access the constantly updated Carpooling page to see who needs and who's offering to share a ride, then post your own request or offer there. In the car you can bring along items that might be needed by those traveling by motorcycle, such as beach blankets, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, or snacks and drinks.

You should let Ken and Kathy know on line if you will or won't go on this excursion by scrolling to the RSVP link at the top right corner of the screen, and clicking either Yes or No. (If your plans later change, just come back to this page to revise your answer.) The fine print under Haulover's address includes Ken and Kathy's address and contact information to help coordinate this group excursion. They'll keep an eye on the weather, and will announce a day before the scheduled trip if it has to be canceled. Going on this group trip halfway between Christmas and New Year's Eve is easy--it's a day at the beach.

    How can I reach here

    December 3, 2014

    • Suzanne and P.

Your parents can drive to you Haulover Beach from Naples by setting their GPS to 10800 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33154. You'd start from Goodlette-Frank Road and Golden Gate Parkway, and follow I-75 South and Florida's Turnpike to FL-826 East in Miami Gardens. Follow FL-826 East to Collins Avenue, turn right, and ask for directions to the clothing-optional beach. The trip should take just under two hours.

Regret missing the event. Good news, Leslie is feeling better. Bad news, she passed the bug on to me and I'm in bed feeling lousy. Hope to join you on the next event.

Lesson learned. We can use the Beach Ambassadors in the cabana by tower 15 to check in when we trickle in to the beach. They even volunteered to set up a shade tent given some notice. Yeahhhh beach ambassadors!

Be advised there will be a brisk 20 mph onshore wind, so if you have some wind blockers bring them.
    Also, strong rip current!

    December 22, 2013

    • Suzanne and P.

Yes, Steve. We always keep the web site's Carpooling page up-to-date, so members can find and post current offers and requests for ride-sharing there. Reach it by scrolling to the top of the screen and clicking on the link marked "Discussions."

I know I will need a ride in order to go. I thought I would not at first. If there is extra room for me that would be great. I live right near the coconut point mall, just south of it.

      December 19, 2013

  • K & K

It looks like we'll have a mixture of motorcycles and cars. To hold down the parking problems of the other side, we need to get a handle on the car/van drivers that will have room for extra people and gear in their cars.
If you could email me or PM me here and let me know your transport situation, that would be great. I'll try to match up the needs.

Only registered members of this club can read Ken and Kathy's email address and phone number, listed under Haulover Beach's street address, above. Be sure to contact the couple to coordinate details for this day-trip. Five men and five women have already signed up for it, with ten more days to go.

If anyone is not aware, the north parking lot at Haulover is closed for construction. It is a considerable longer walk to the beach, mainly if you plan to go up where the concessions are. The south end of the beach is much closer. We live near Everglades City so we will probably just go to the beach from here. Do you have a designated place to meet at the beach?

We'll convoy from our house in Bonita Springs to the Shell gas station at the intersection of US-41 and CR 951 (Collier blvd) to meet Mike and Leslie and also to top off gas tanks.

    1 · December 10, 2013

  • K & K

I rode the US 41 route to the Big Cypress park stop today to make sure there were no road problems. Everything looks good so far.

While I was riding, I started thinking about the things we should remember to bring. Lots of bottled water, sunscreen, hat, beach chairs, umbrella, towel, sunglasses, snacks, etc. What am I forgetting?

Also, I'll print out the trip route as well as my cell number and give a copy to all the drivers, just in case.

The trip would be weather dependent.
