Anita Best, at the heart of the Newfoundland traditional scene is known for her research, teaching, broadcasting and as one of Newfoundland's most talented traditional singers. Born in a small fishing village with the fairytale name of Merasheen, in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland, her family presence there dates from the 1700s. Her musical heritage comes from both sides of the family, wonderful singers all of old ballads, tragic sea songs and comical ditties, plus occasional storytelling.
