Join our local groups of concerned community members across the Garden State to promote and protect healthy food & clean water! From potlucks, to rallies and petition drives we come together to hold our elected officials accountable to protect common resources and foster a sustainable, healthy future for all.
We're supporting many efforts, but our two biggest priorities are banning fracking and labeling generically engineered foods.
For those who don't know, fracking is a method of natural gas extraction with toxic consequences for drinking water, from polluting New Jersey water. Fracking has been linked to ground water contamination by the EPA, but despite this fact the process is exempt from numerouse federal laws meant to protect public health and the environment.
Genetic engineering modifies the DNA of crops to display specific traits, such as a resistance to pesticides and herbicides. Genetically engineered (GE) crops are often also referred to as genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or biotech crops. Genetically Engineered foods are often untested, frequently require dangerous chemicals in their farming and may be a threat to organic foods and to the environment.
