Brunch at Susan Feniger's STREET - all you can eat small plates

OKAY, here's an alternative to dim sum on a Sunday. I had the opportunity to speak with Susan Feniger earlier this year and have been meaning to schedule an event at STREET. Recently the restaurant tested an all you can eat small plate week day evening menu, but as of right now they haven't implemented it. Instead the restaurant has been doing an all you can eat small plate menu for brunch on weekends.

Susan's food reflects her interest in culture and communities especially of all the places she has traveled to for culinary inspiration. Please feel free to read more about Susan by clicking this link and reading through the four parts of my profile of her:

http://exm.nr/WHrQD2

Note this is SMALL PLATES meaning we will collectively order small plates and share them. Since it is all you can eat small plates, we can keep ordering plates people like

===========================================

Some other notes:

  • Below is the current online menu, which may change.
  • This is a vegetarian/vegan friendly event.
  • Free street parking is available on Sunday
  • Due to the interest, I have increased the attendance to 24 people. So if you are wait listed, please update yourself to attending since this is NOT done automatically due to the refundable deposit required.
  • Refundable deposit is required to discourage "flakage". This deposit will be returned by Darrell after the event. The deposit is not applied to the cost of the event.

I liked everything too, good job Stefhan.

I wonder if it would have been possible to under-reserve the number of seats when making the reservation and then adding 2 or 3 more if everybody did show up. Maybe Darrell should try this for the 21st.

I don't know how anyone manages a table of 24...good show, Stefan!

  • Randi

I liked pretty much everything except the beets. I didn't like the juniper dressing.

Nearly every small plate was good, although I liked some of them better. The first one, the waffle, was the weakest, too dry, but the coconut toast, the Kaya, the Tataki salmon, the beets, the merguez, were amongst my favorites.

Ellen, a movie sounds good--which one?

    June 29, 2013

  • ellen

Lindsie, Sally F., John, etc., how about a movie after getting stuffed on brunch?

    June 27, 2013

  • ellen

    I still want to attend.

I've been to Susan and Mary Sue's Border Grill all you can eat brunch in Las Vegas and it is fantastic (one of my favorite places to eat in Vegas). Same idea, you order and they prepare it in the kitchen to order.

Okay people who were on the wait list were given a few days and at least one notification. So as to not discourage any one else from signing up, those waiting with spaces still available have been moved to "not attending". If those people would still like to attend, they'll have to update their status to "attending".

    June 18, 2013

    • Annette K.

I just checked, and the notification only came yesterday, so not a few days. Still, I can't believe the ONE day I am too busy to check my email every 5 minutes and .... Have fun anyway, Foodies!!

      June 18, 2013

    • Stefhan

I sent notice to every one on the wait list first two days ago, and then I sent you and the remaining people on the wait list another individual msg 12 hours before notifying the entire group, so I did try my best to accommodate those who were on the wait list first before letting others know I increased the attendance. Sorry you missed both of both msgs.

Sadly I'm going to be out of town! :(

Thanks for organizing this. This will be my first meetup with your group. Looking forward to it!

My first LA Foodie meetup and first time to Street. is this each person ordering on their own or ordering for the table so we can all try everything or is it a buffet?

    June 18, 2013

    • Stefhan

every one has to participate in the all you can eat small plates menu, so with small plates you usually order and share them....however since it's all you can eat, if people want or like certain dishes, more can be ordered.

      June 18, 2013

    • Stefhan

though to be honest not sure exactly how it works, but sure it's not a buffet

      June 18, 2013

  • Daaiyah

Hi, my understanding from other meetups is that I will receive the deposit after my attendance to the event. Is that the case with this event. This is not made clear in the refund policy. Thanks so much

    June 17, 2013

    • Stefhan

yes - read the "note" about - 4th bullet point which has also now been added to the refund policy note

      June 17, 2013

  • Sura

Can this be done without the cocktail option?

    June 17, 2013

  • Jessie

YAY! can't wait to meet everyone and eat!!

    June 17, 2013

  • Stefhan

Okay, more demand than I anticipated, so I'm going to try to expand the attendance. OPEN TABLE won't let me do it online, so have to do it directly with the restaurant.

    June 17, 2013

    • Darrell

Try and get tables outside, should be nice! Be sure to mention LA Foodies and they will probably do their best to accommodate your event. The space upstairs would be a hassle to get to the food... Inside can be noisy but air conditioned...

      June 17, 2013

    • Stefhan

I was exchanging msgs with whomever monitors their facebook page. So right now just waiting until closer to five PM to call and work out the arrangements. Most of the seating is in the courtyard, so we'll probably have to sit there so they can accommodate us.

      June 17, 2013

  • Jessie

I'd love to go and meet new people! I've been dying to try this restaurant !

    June 17, 2013

  • Sarah B.

How much does the brunch cost?

    June 17, 2013

    • Stefhan

      it's written above - $25 for food

      June 17, 2013

  • Darrell

Nice. The Kaya Toast alone is $12 Susan F. has always been a great host to our group.
