Grand Central Market Foodie Lunch Crawl!!!

The event has been rescheduled to 4/13...

We will meet at Egg Slut. If you are late, just catch up by moving down the list. To speed up our ordering/paying for our food crawl... I will collect $20 cash from each person and will pay for the group's food at each vendor that we will share. Whatever money leftover will be returned to members. Please bring some change for your $20 to help speed up the paying and distribution.

We will portion out the food into small bites so that we don't get filled up too soon...

If you want a drink or other item not shared, just pay for it on your own.

How This 1917 Market Has Become L.A.'s Hottest New Foodie Hub

Grand Central Market

L.A.’s Grand Central Market, in the heart of Downtown, has been a meeting and eating place for Angelenos since 1917. Almost a century later, shoppers still flood the market daily, enticed by lush produce, and an ethnically diverse collection of food stalls that have been around forever.

Now—taking a cue, no doubt, from San Francisco’s Ferry Building—a slew of new, shiny artisanal food stalls have set up shop at this historic L.A. hub. The newly-polished market has recently welcomed gourmet coffee, modern Thai food, and Texan-style barbecue into its mainstay mix of tacos, pupusas, and Chinese food (oysters and cheese are on the way). The result? A vibrant mix of old and new, making Grand Central Market L.A.’s latest foodie destination. Here’s a selection of classic and new food stalls that you don’t want to miss:

Smoked Salmon Banh Mi at Valerie

Egg Slut is a dream come true for the ovo-obsessed. Sandwiches are served on brioche buns and piled high with eggs, cheese, breakfast meats, and inventive condiments (think chipotle ketchup and Sriracha mayo). Even nachos get the sunny-side-up treatment.

Valerie is a modern lunch counter, where you’ll find sandwiches, salads, and a rotating selection of pastries and cakes. Try the Smoked Salmon Banh Mi, seasonal hand pies, and the delicious Brown Derby Grapefruit Cake.

Sticky Rice specializes in Thai comfort food, all made using organic ingredients. For an amazing lunch, get the grilled chicken with papaya salad, and the Vegetable Green Curry (it has the perfect level of spice). For dessert, try the Mango Sticky Rice.

China Café

China Café's lunch counter

We will probably skip this one... China Café L.A. China Cafe's bustling lunch counter is crowded with customers—even in the morning hours. The thing to get here is the House Wonton Soup, a bowl filled with plump and plentiful wontons, barbecued pork, and chicken. Chile oil served on the side perks up the flavorful broth.

There's a couple dessert spots. Valerie has pastries and there's some frozen desserts around.

Had fun tasting a variety of foods and meeting more members. The market has changed dramatically from a few years back. Thx Darrell!

    There's a couple new vendors...
Belcampo Meat Co.: Can you handle yet another craveable option in Downtown’s Grand Central Market? We think you can. Among the many meaty options on this organic butchery’s menu, you’ll find the “Belcampo Burger” -- a 5.5oz, dry-aged & grass-fed beef patty topped with cheddar and caramelized onions.

I actually live across the street and walk through it from work everyday. Shockingly haven't tried any of these three places, let me know if a spot open up
