L.A. Critical Mass Bicycle Ride & Late Night Dining @El Matador Taco Truck ~Hwd

It's Group Ride & Dine Time Again!

This is a fun and whacky ride with a few riders in crazy costumes and all kinds of interesting people and bikes. While it is a long ride, it's at a very social pace and there's very little uphill... it's almost all flat land and the pace is slow to moderate as this is a huge group.

The ride ends around 11:00pm to Midnight at the Sunset/Western intersection and from there, we will bike to a local Hollywood restaurant. If we pass by the truck @ 10:30pm or later, let's skip the finish and head to our chosen dining venue. This way, anyone using the Metrorail after the ride will be able to join us for our well deserved after ride meal.Tonight we will dine at:

El Matador Taco Truck
1174 N Western Ave and Lexington (right by the freeway on East side of road about 4-5 blocks south of Sunset Bl.)
Los Angeles, CA 90028

57 reviews averaging 4.5 Stars on Yelp. I've grabbed a few tacos here before and it's a outstanding truck. They sell quesadillas, tortas, burritos and fillings include lengua, chorizo and all the other regular fillings. I think 3 tacos fills me up and will cost only $4-5!

The last Metro Train is around 12:30am so we want to finish riding around 10:30-11:00pm so that everyone can enjoy the late night eats before heading home.

The January ride had about 1000+ cyclists, a full 50-60 LAPD escort and it was a blast rolling through the red lights like  Prez Obama. We rode all over Downtown, Little El Salvador, WeHo's Santa Monica Bl. and along Hollywood Blvd between Highland and Western Ave, not stopping for any red lights with our police escort and during the Friday Nite's prime hours when normally the traffic is horrific... We also rode thru Thaitown, Little Armenia, Mid-Wilshire, Koreatown and all points between while the group takes over the streets of L.A. and it's so much fun! The ride does start EXACTLY on time... 7:29pm. If you are fashionably late, you will miss the ride! So... get here at around 7pm and be ready to ride at 7:29pm.

I plan to go on this ride every month... so I hope you will join me and we can ride and dine together! FYI 3+ hours of moderate biking will burn around[masked] calories so you should bring a couple energy bars, water, windbreaker, gloves etc. I'll send more specific details as necessary a week before the ride.

Meeting Location is in front of the Cleaners near the Stairs

Below is the websites Press Release:

Come prepared to have FUN and pedal with others in the largest bicycle ride in the City of Los Angeles, LA Critical Mass. Our rides have over 3000 cyclists and include a Los Angeles Police Department Officer presence on bicycles, and on motorcycles.

Each month the ride takes a different route, that is part of the fun. LACM rides are on the last Friday of each month.  Riders meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Purple Line Station, on the NE Corner of Western Avenue and Wilshire Blvd. and the ride rolls at 7:29 p.m.  Parking is conveniently available if needed.

LA Critical Mass monthly rides are approximately 30 miles with a speed around 8-10 miles mph, enabling riders of all ages and nearly all levels of experience to join in the fun and pedal together as a mass. Nearly 20% of riders are women.  Groups of friends and entire families can participate together.

There are always at least two brief stops, and often times three. It is always a good idea on all rides to bring something to eat, drink, wear a helmet, have front and rear lights, a brake and in case of flat, (tube, levers, pump, patch kit).

Los Angeles Critical Mass ends around 11:00-Midnight, and ends at Sunset Blvd. and Western Avenue very convenient to an open Metro Red Line Station.

Come out meet new people, discover new parts of the great city of Los Angeles, have FUN and ride with a purpose.

Ride Daily, Celebrate Monthly. LA Critical Mass, we ride the last Friday of every month.  Ride LACM we do riding right.

Another fine ride and good eats at El Matador Taco Food Truck

    March 31, 2012

Hey gang, I'm certainly open to changing the dining component of this event from the Taco Truck to something else if someone has a better idea. I just thought we could find some cold beers and hit the truck for some quick eats and cheap beers. But the tacos and food are good here!
