Explore Chinatown & Late Night Prix Fixe 11 Course Banquet $20 Tax/Tip Included

Plan on arriving early to allow for weekend parking or if you are not familiar with Chinatown. If you take the Metro to Union Station, it's about 1/2 mile walk to the Meeting Point. Master Chef will validate for parking in the Bamboo Plaza lot, but if with the walking tour, it might exceed the time and cost something additional. You might find street parking if you are lucky...

Meet at 8:15pm in front of the restaurant and then at 8:20pm we will begin our walk/stroll around the streets and towards the plaza of Chinatown. Decades ago, on weekends, the streets were so filled with tourists, it would be wall to wall people. You could not walk the streets of Chinatown at a normal pace as there'd be so many people everywhere. Today, it's not so busy and much more enjoyable to explore the streets and shops of Chinatown.

Bring your camera, it is a fun way to explore Chinatown. We can share our images during dinner. We might get them to waive corkage.

You can skip the walk if you wish and just meet us at 9:15pm. Please comment if you plan on attending the pre-dinner exploration.

Meet at 9:15pm back at the Master Chef Restaurant in case you get separated from the group or you wanted to explore on your own and we will order at 9:30pm which is the start of the Late Night Menu where we save a few bucks. Dinner will be a 11 course meal. Yes sir... there is a method to my madness!!! You will have walked/exercised for an hour before dinner so you deserve to eat GOOD this evening! After dinner, another option is to head back to the Central Plaza and to the Via Cafe which is a hipster cafe/restaurant where we could get some hot coffee drinks, tea, desserts along with free wifi to share your images on Meetup/Facebook or Twitter if you wish.

Banquet Menu:

  • Wonton Soup
  • Whole Roast Duck
  • Szechuan Tofu
  • Steamed Minced Pork with Salted Duck Egg
  • X.O. Combination Fried Rice
  • Chicken with Black Bean Sauce
  • Deep Fried Squid with Spicy Salt
  • Rock Cod Fish Fillet with Green Vegetables
  • Honey Walnut Shrimp
  • Beef Chow Fun Dry (wide flat noodles light gravy)
  • House Dessert (could be fruit, tapioca, cookies, hot bean soup)

It is not a good deal for Peking Duck here as they don't include the duck meat when you order Peking Duck here. So, it is a much better deal to get a whole roast duck.

We had a great group of people last night. Met some interesting new peeps. Got some walking exercise in and I think that added to everyone's appetite as we had 12 courses and virtually demolished everything! I asked them not to serve everything at once... so again, everything came out at once just about! LOL... I thought the won ton soup was a dud, to me it had a bit of a aftertaste I didn't enjoy. They didn't get the service order right serving the slippery shrimp first and the soup about 3rd or forth. I'd give the food about 3 Yelp stars plus 1/2 a star for having some discounts on the dishes on their late night menu. No standout dishes that I must return to try this time. It was nice to have the steamed minced pork as it reminded me of my mom's cooking... but she of course did a much better job... RIP Mom... We substituted the Sichuan Tofu for their special of the day, the Oxtail Hot Pot and it was nicely cooked but the flavor was not familiar to me. Different but good.

The eats and lively company were great. Darrell's walking tour of Chinatown was nice, but I wish there was more activity going on... the streets were mostly empty after 8 p.m. I'm sure it's a completely different vibe during the day. The food was good, and came out fast. We ordered just enough to feel satisfied. Favorite dish had to be the roast duck. At about 10 p.m., after the Lakers' loss, the tables started to fill and the restaurant was hopping.

Darrell, the refund policy says that we will be given a 100% refund if we attend. Does that mean we should have $20 in cash on the night of to pay at the restaurant?
