Seoul Sausage Co. - Sunday, went down to Cafe Bleu to try out the Seoul Sausages in which was their launch after their successful outing at the 2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cook Off. Unfortunately I wasn't very hungry as I had been in my Test Kitchen in the morning testing some Salvi-Korean fusion dishes... So I only ordered the spicy pork sausage which was quite tasty and opted to try their kalbi sausage another day. The pork sausage was somewhat mildly spicy, I would have liked kim chee instead of the mild slaw that it came with. I guess in the future, they should have a bottle of the Vietnamese Sriracha hot sauce and give us the option of having kim chee added to that sausage. The sausages were BIG... approximately 1/3lb bad boys! On a sweet brioche bun... very nice. They would love to cater to our group, or we could do a private tasting at a residence, so if someone would like to host an event with them, it could be fun!
Flat Iron Steak - Tried to find this cut of meat or a top blade steak without success so far. I did find a package that looks like it could be what I'm looking for. The steaks look like the shape of a iron and it has a vein of silver skin in the middle... The cost of the meat wasn't exactly cheap at $3.50/lb but I'd like to see if this is a tender cut as described. I found some decent marbling but certainly not tenderloin tender. Okay... it was tasty, reasonably tender, but took some time to trim away the silver skin and more waste than I expected. So... another failed test, dammit.
