Bakers Mtn State Park - Moderate Hike

  • Mar 1, 2014 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Bakers Mountain is a local favorite. We will take a combination of trails that take us around the park. Approximately 2 1/2 miles of mostly moderate trails. NOTE: there is one short section listed as strenuous due to the steepness. But we wont be in a hurry and will stop to rest as needed. Will take about 2 hours depending on how long we stay at the observation deck which over looks Catawba County.  Although not a long hike, remember to bring hydration and energy snacks.              http://www.localhikes.com/Hikes/BakersMtn_3290.asp

I had an awesome time today meeting Ned, Ray, Michael and Renee! The hike was very nice and the weather turned out to be great. Looking forward to the next outing.

To bad some had to cancel as the weather turned out to be great. But life happens and we all do what we got to do. We stretched it out to a 3 hour hike and just enjoyed the extra time on the mountain. Just a really enjoyable afternoon with a good group of people!

Sorry all I am not coming. I either had food poisoning or just a bad reaction to something last night and still feel not back to normal yet. Have a great hike.

Come on out and join us Suzanne. If it's a last minute decision don't worry about the RSVP, we don't need an exact head count for this one.

Since this one is so close I was just going to meet at the park at 1:00. If someone needs a ride from the Newton/Hickory area speak up as one of us will be glad to help you out.

Getting addresses correct for state parks can be surprisingly difficult at times. Here's a little help...

And from the parks' website: From 1-40, take exit #121, go south on Old Shelby Road 4.3 miles. Turn left on Bakers Mountain Road and the entrance to the park is about a mile ahead. Look for park signs on street sign posts.
