Arlene had to reschedule Crowders Mtn for April 19th, and I've been looking for a chance to get back to Rocky Face in northern Alexander County.
By combining Prison Camp, the upper section of Hollow Rock and Grindstone trails we should have a nice 4 mile hike with a 600' elevation gain. The website list the trails as Moderate to Strenuous. I'm estimating around 2 1/2 hours, but I've only been here once so it's just a guess. Be sure to bring hydration and energy snacks.
We can meet at the Walmart (try to park close to Zaxby's) in Conover at 12:00 to carpool and be on the road by 12:15. We'll meet up with those going directly to Rocky Face at the picnic area and plan on being on the trail at 1:00.
From Interstate 40 in Catawba County, travel NC 16 North toward Taylorsville and turn east onto US 64. Travel to stoplight at Millersville Road and turn left.Travel one-half mile to stop sign on NC 90 and turn left. Travel one-half mile and turn right on White Plains Rd. Travel to stop sign and turn right on Rocky Springs Road. Travel 1.4 miles and turn left on Rocky Face Church Road. Park is 1.2 miles on right.
