Paddle the Johns River

  • CANCELLED due to weather.

This is an easy river, perfect for beginners and a good way to knock the rust off our paddling muscles. We will be doing a 5 mile paddle and plan to stretch it out to about 2 1/2 hours, allowing plenty of time to practice.

Those who do not own boats can contact CBS Sports in Morganton about rentals. (828) 437-7016. We will transport the rentals to and from CBS, but EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN RENTALS. You will need to call to reserve your boat.

We'll meet at CBS Sports at noon, pick up the rentals and head to the take out. The paddle will be either from Playmore Beech Rd to Corpening Rd or from Corpening to Hwy 18. Either will be about the same distance.

CBS Sports is located at 911 N Green St, Morganton, NC

Do to picking up rentals I need to start with a 12 attendee limit. Depending on who gets in on this and how many have trucks we may be able to up the limit.

Unfortunately now I'll probably just have to have steak or something

Poor thing, reduced to eating a steak. Tough life. How do you handle it so well?

I hate making calls on weather. Sometimes you just got to go with your gut feeling and mine is saying to cancel. I'll try to get this rescheduled soon.

During the hours we plan to paddle there's a 40% to 70% chance of thunderstorms. I personally was hoping for better weather than this. What do you guys want to do, try it or reschedule?

    May 10, 2014

    • Michael S.

I'm good for a reschedule. I would like a little more water flow too.

Sorry to have to cancel. My good friend Ron was in a bad wreck yesterday and I will be taking care of him over the weekend

I'm sorry to hear that. I know he'll be in good hands. God bless

Poor Ron's having a rough time. Hope he heals up quickly.

I would like to do this - would anyone like to split the cost of a rental?

    April 30, 2014

    • Kayak Dave "THE R.

Sharyn, unless you're looking for a tandem.... there should be enough people with extra boats you don't need a rental. Let me know

Hate to miss this paddle but heading to Arkansas this weekend for mother's day, have fun

Assuming weather and water levels are good Saturday, here is the plan. Meet at CBS at noon and pick up any rentals needed. Head up to Corpening Bridge which will be our take out. Transfer some boats to trailers/trucks so we can leave some vehicles for shuttle. Head on up to Playmore Bridge to put-in. Hope to be on the river around 1:00.

I can bring a trailer to haul boats on.

Thanks Scott! We'll touch bases later to discuss how many boats we have to haul.
