Paddle Heeia Pier, across Kaneohe Bay to Chinaman's Hat

Hey Gang, our next paddle on Sunday, May 4 will be a great beginners paddle! We'll be paddling the entire way inside Kaneohe Bay where we'll have no exposure to open ocean waves, but we will have the Sunken Island(google this) lots of turtles, Manta Rays and great Snorkelng areas! An to Top It Off - litteerally - we'll be climbing to the top of Mokolii Island, AKA Chinaman's Hat, for a group photo. This location provides one of the most Scenic views of Kaneohe Bay and the Koolau Mountains available. It's an easy 5.5 mile paddle in protected waters and is very worth doing.

So, here's the plan........Meet at Heeia State Boat Harbor at 8:00 AM to off-load kayaks, and then shuttle cars to Kualoa Park on the North end of the bay. We'll then paddle away about 9 AM, paddle about 20-30 min to the sunken Is., then paddle around it to the turtle and Manta Ray grounds behind it. From there, it's a short 4 miles to Chinaman's hat where we'll take a break, go for short hike around the island and to the top. You really will want to use the pics you get at the top to send to friends and family if they don't live here as it'll make them crazy jealous that you do!! :) We should be finishing up between noon and 1:00 pm. This should be a fun, easy paddle so I'll look forward to seeing you all there!!

Had a great time today! I seem to have lost my car's radio antenna though (they took it off at the shop and I threw it in my car). I was just wondering if anyone (particularly those who rode in the Fiat) remembers seeing it anywhere. Look forward to the next paddle!

    • Bob

Hi Rhonda, Check your glove box, that's where we normally put it. If not there, beside, under, or between the seat and seat back would be most likely. Good luck and hope to see ya on the next paddle!

    • Bob

Also, I know Oscar was missing one from his car, so, if he's got one now, ya might want to ask him where he got it.........Just sayin...

Great weather, lots of Turtles, and a fun group of people. The views from the top of Mokolii Island (Chinaman's hat) were enjoyed by everyone!

    May 4

    • Gloria

      I didn't see any turtles :(

      1 · May 5

    • Bob

Bummer!! The turtles I saw were REALLY shy! When they saw us coming, all of them would submerge when we got within 40 yards of them. I'm thinking if you were near the back of the pack, they may have been underwater already when you passed them. Maybe next time try to stay near the front and you'll most likely see more. See ya in a couple of weeks for the next one!

Hello Everyone, I am new here.
I will be coming up to join you guys this Sunday with my uncle, What do I need to bring?
I am very very new at kayaking. I will be renting the kayak from TWOGOOD Kayaks. What else do I need to bring?
    Also, am I understanding right?
First we go there and disembark the kayas, and then we drive the cars to some other place? and then we shuttle back?

I am sorry, English is not my native language so it is sometimes hard to understand. How should I dress...? TUX? :P JK

    Thank you all.

PS- Steve sorry to hear that. I hope she gets better.

    Caroline update:
She has a hairline fracture on two ribs, Not tragic but painful none the less. This paddle is an easy one so I'm coaxing her to show up in our tandem anyway. Worst case is I paddle.

    April 23

  • Veronique

We will come if we can, not sure yet. We also will need a new paddle before coming. I never thought we would break so many paddles!
