Surf-skills Seminar and Paddle

  • Dec 8, 2012 · 9:00 AM

Let's plan to meet in the parking lot which is on the Koko Head side of the little cove which is on the Koko Head end of the Hawaii Kai boat launch ramp parking lot. Boy, it would be hard to find a more complicated way to describe a meeting point!!! :)     We'll get the class started at 8:00 AM so plan to arrive early enough to have your boats offloaded and ready to go by 8:00 am.

Please be sure that you have your PFD and a leash from your boat to yourself or to your paddle, but some method so you won't get far separated from your boat if you wipe out when we're practicing.

We plan to cover safety considerations, how to judge a surf spot, surf etiquette, boat control on a wave and how best to survive a wipeout!! So get up early, eat a good breakfast and get ready for a morning with lots of fun!!!

We’ve got a lot of new members and have had several recent requests for kayak surfing instruction so……on Saturday,  December 8,  we’ll be doing a surf-skills seminar for our club members taught by yours truly (Bob Twogood) .  During this seminar, members will get tips on how to judge surfing locations and wave types, learn the skills you need to avoid capsizing in surf (most of the time J), and how to control your kayak while surfing.  This is a fun class that will improve your skills and confidence a great deal!!  Because we need waves to conduct the class, we’ll be waiting for the surf forecast to be issued a couple of days prior to Dec. 8 before deciding where we’ll be holding the classes.  The best thing about this class is that there will be no charge for club members!  So, if you’re getting this email and want to join the fun, call our store at[masked] and sign up!  We don’t want the waves to get too crowded so we’re limiting participation to the first 15 kayaks that are signed up, singles or tandems, so don’t delay if you’re interested in this!!

As always, you are responsible for your own health and safety.

Also, if you are thinking about upgrading your kayak, be sure to contact the store to arrange for rental of the type kayak you are considering. This will be a good opertunity to test drive and see if you like that model.

Plenty fun in the surf and sun! I learned skills, and enjoyed the companionship of people with positive attitudes . . . what's not to like?

Wow, what a fantastic surfing class. We went under the waves, we went over, we went in, we rolled inside, we did the huli and we even managed to catch some long ones before they tipped us. Thanks Bob and Terry.

Aloha Paddlers!! Well, it looks like the South Shore is where the waves will be best for our Surf-skills class tomorrow morning. Aloha Paddlers, Looks like we've got a fun crew signed up or our surf-skills clinic with only 4 more slots open! As you know, one of the requirements for a surf-skills class is .......Surf. so that we have the best chance possible to get conditions(Consistant Small to medium sizewaves) that will be best for doing this class, we'll need to check the surf forecast on Friday the 7th and then announce the location of the class at noon here on this list. So, Be sure to come back here Friday afternoon to confirm the class location, or, you could call Twogood Kayaks at[masked] and we'll have the information available at our store also. See ya Saturday!!
