Foraging for food banks

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • "The Lemon Lady", Anna Chan, collects unwanted fruit from neighborhood trees in CoCo and donates them to food banks. I've been emailing her about helping out with picking and delivering to food banks; she has over 1,000 trees registered. She's been very busy lately collecting leftover produce from farmers markets, so needs lots of help picking. Obviously, the folks whose trees she has registered have signed up to donate food to the needy (not just generally to give away their fruit to those who are interested), but I thought it might be interesting for this group to learn about her initiative, maybe have a meet up with her, and/or perhaps help her out as part of this group's mission.
I'm not suggesting that we milk her for leads on forageables for personal use, but she may also be able to share some ideas that would help this group develop resources for personal-use foraging.

Any for the Livermore area. I volunteer for http://www.asburygardenofgrace.org/ and am starting to try to create gleaning activi to support the open heart kitchen and 3 local charitable pantries that way. I am investigating only so far, but as long as the fuel invested is justified by the crop I am down to hello harvest. let me know, if you have something local to Livermore?

Hi Judy! I think that's a great idea! Would you be willing to talk to her about a possible meetup? I'm sure we could learn a ton of useful info from her on how to go about this venture, and I know I would be totally willing to look at any way we could help with her cause.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
