Black Friday Forage

I'm not exactly a shopping enthusiast so I thought a forage would be a fun way to spend some time outside and away from the TV. Below is a quick list of plants I found on a short walk on the Stony Run trail. If you intend to join us for this walk please pick a plant from the list and leave your chosen plant in the comments below. On our walk you should be able to ID your plant and tell the group a little something about it.

red clover

black locust

white pine

evening primrose

wild rose

black walnut

Bring a field guide, notepad, decent field shoes, water and maybe a camera.

Turn onto Tudor Arms, the blue trail, off of University Parkway and find a place to park. Follow the red oak leaf trail to the leaf pile. The trail is not actually blazed, the map is to help you get to where we are meeting. Follow the downhill trail to the stream. You will see an overhead bridge to your left and an open field to your right. We will meet right there by the stream.

Note: Not all the plants are in their eatable state, but can still be identified. It is sometimes important to ID plants out of season and make a mental note so you can come back when they are prime and before other scavengers have gotten to them.

This from the Baltimore Brew. Their "Urban Forager" was at what I think was the same place we foraged a few days later. She dug up some burdock.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
