Baan Gerda Community Outreach

***Meeting at 6:45 at Century Mall - Power King.  It is located on Thanon Rang Nam.  If you take the BTS Victory Monument, use Exit 2.  When you walk down the stairs continue for about 200 meters, the first soi is Thanon Rang Nam.  The vans will be about 100 meters down the soi.  I will have a rainbow umbrella that will be easy to spot.  You can if you are lost or late (we leave at 7am). My number is[masked]-2392.

It's time to put your skills to good use.  We will be going to Baan Gerda, a small village where 85 HIV infected and affected orphans live.

http://www.baangerda.org/

I'm asking for a 1,000 baht donation for this trip.  That will include your travel there and back.  It's a long trip - 230km.  We will be donating school supplies, art supplies, soccer balls, etc.  The more people that come, the more we can do.  If you sign up and don't come, you will still need to pay the 1,000 baht.  I will purchase what I can based on the how many sign up.  If you want to contribute more, please let me know.  All of the money and more will be spent on the orphanage.

When we get there, we can organize multiple activities for the kids.  We can do team building activities, art activities, sports, music, games, etc.  I plan on organizing a large scale really fun science experiment (making and playing in Oobleck if you know it).   Please let me know if you have any ideas for activities and what supplies you may need.

Meet in the morning 6:45 am

Arrive around 10:00 am

Activities & Lunch

Leave Baan Gergda around 14:00

Back in BKK around 17:00

I've been in contact with Baan Gerda, but have not been out there yet.  I will make a trip out before our meetup to better understand who they are, what they want and what they need.

I'm still working on details (like transportation).  Depending on sign up, I will try to arrange for our own van.

I'm sorry, John, I can't make it this weekend - I forgot I have a friend in town. Let me know if you plan to go another time in the future. :-)

This event is exactly the type of thing I have been hoping for! -- Unfortunately, I must attend a wedding out of town on the same day.

I definitely look forward to something like this in the future!

So far I have purchased school supplies (pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, books, and colored pencils). I have purchased jump ropes, and flying discs. I have also bought small ceramic figures to paint along with the paint. I have purchased a small inflatable pool and lots corn starch for my science experiment (lots of fun). I will be buying soccer balls, snacks and drinks. Any other ideas or requests? I'm hoping we fill the 20 spots so that I can get ever more things to donate.
