Enjoyed the meetup. Thanks, Karen. Found some interesting bits of trivia today: Paul Auster has a troubled son, and it sounds like that was the inspiration for Jacob, the "bad seed" son in the novel: "In 1998, Daniel, Auster's son from his first marriage, pleaded guilty to stealing $3,000 from a drug dealer called Angel Melendez; Melendez had been killed by his flatmate, New York party promoter Michael Alig, and although Daniel was never implicated in the murder, he reportedly admitted having been in the flat at the time."

Also the name of Jacob's father, Trause, is an anagram of Auster!

    That's from here:

Great discussion, Karen. Thanks for, once again, hosting a great event. Enjoyed the book and all the insights at our table. I was surprised that some people at our table didn't really like the book, despite the very enlightening discussion. Thanks Marjorie, for all those interesting bits of background info.

I was actually really looking forward to going to the Oracle Night book discussion, but I just realized it's the same night as a class I had signed up for which starts this week - so if you have your meeting on a Wed night, I can't go. Monday or Tuesday night is fine.

I'm 40 pages into the book and love it so far. But it's rather complicated, so I highly recommend taking notes or at least jotting down who the various characters are.

If this confuses you, you would be REALLY confused by AT SWIM-TWO-BIRDS, a Flann O'Brien novel about a medical student who is writing a novel about Dermot Trelliis, who is writing a novel about...

It is rather hard to follow with the book within the book within another book, and taking notes on it is a good idea. I'm also about 1/3 of the way through and am finding it very interesting, quite different from The Queen's Fool.

I finished it and loved it. ..especially since I used to live in that area and recognize a lot of the locations.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
