revised book descriptions for July poll

Hello fellow readers,

The member who suggested one of the books on the poll for July was upset that I did not include the description of the novel that she sent me several months ago. (I had used a description from Amazon.com.) Therefore, I have revised the book descriptions documents, which can be found at
http://www.meetup.com/Forest-Hills-Book-Group/files/, replacing the Amazon blurb with her paragraph. That description is also at the bottom of this message.

If you have already participated in the poll and would like to recast your vote in light of this other description of It Can't Happen Here, you can do so at http://www.meetup.com/Forest-Hills-Book-Group/polls/. (If you’re logged in and have voted, it will say “change your vote” at the right side of the screen.)

It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis (376 pages)
Election of U.S. senator to presidency after promising drastic economic and social reforms while promoting a return to patriotism and traditional values (he takes complete control of the government and imposes a plutocratic/totalitarian-rule using paramilitary forces, causing the leading opposing liberal newspaper journalist—from Vermont—to flee to Canada with others). “[I]t juxtaposes sharp political satire with the chillingly realistic rise of a president who becomes a dictator to save the nation from welfare cheats, sex, crime, and a liberal press.” Published just prior to the assassination of Huey Long, who was preparing to run for the presidency, in 1935. “[A] shockingly prescient novel that remains as fresh and contemporary as today’s news.”
