Advanced Tennis Drills

Wednesday, May 7th, we are starting tennis drills for advanced players (3.0 and higher, meaning you have the basics down for groundstrokes, volleys and serves). We plan to run you, make you stretch for shots and force you to bring your game up a level. Kristin Beehler, who played 4 years at a division 1 school, will be leading the drills. Price of admission is one can of new Penn Tennis balls. We promise to make it worth the price (in your sweat).

Thanks Kevin. I'm on Fort Bragg on Wednesdays but not on the weekends, so if Wednesday drills are for 4.0+ only! then I won't come at all as it's too far to drive back in again on a Sunday. But if the drills on Wednesday are designed for[masked] I can fit in.

Sunday has two aspects. I take the beginners and send intermediate level players to James and Richard. If your game can challenge them, the advanced drills are for you. Advanced drills do have 4.5 players, so I may need to change it to 4.0 or those who can challenge a 4.0 player. Kevin

And advanced drills are designed to keep 4.0 players on their toes, not the other way around. In other words, we don't want 4.0 players playing down a notch. We want them working hard on every point.

Good, tough practice. We went almost 2 hours on a hot day. However, this was not advanced tennis today. If you struggled today hitting consistent groundstrokes, you should drop back to the intermediate class on Sunday. We cannot challenge the advanced players to get better if some of the players on the court struggle with consistency. This will turn into an intermediate lesson, and I'd rather just focus on the Sunday Clinic because we are not helping the advanced players. We had great fun today, and I love you guys being out there, but we need to keep this for advanced drills.

If rain looks like it is threatening, text me at[masked]-7842. With this many players, we'll split into three groups. Make sure you hydrate and stretch tonight. We'll be running quite a bit. Drills will be much more advanced than Sunday's, so players will need fairly consistent groundstrokes, volley and be able to hit an overhead. Hitting speed will be ungoverned. We want you to swing freely, so net players need to be comfortable with higher speeds. See you all tomorrow.

If enough people think 530 pm is too early, let me know and we may push it back to 6 pm.

This will be adult tennis. Juniors of an appropriate age and maturity may be accepted. Definitely not for new players or those who cannot run down shots.
