PodCamp Fort Collins is coming March 12 and 13th! NOTE! THIS EVENT HAS TWO DAYS: March 12 - 7-9PM :: Planning, Organization, and FAQ March 13 - 9AM-6PM :: The Actual Event! PodCamp is an UnConference for new media enthusiasts and professionals including bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, social networkers, and anyone curious about new media or web technology. There are no set speakers; everyone in attendance is considered a rockstar and can lead their own sessions or help others to facilitate. PodCamp isn't just about podcasting! If you're interested in blogging, social media, social networking, podcasting, video on the net, if you're a podsafe musician (or want to be), or just someone curious about new media, then please join us -- and bring a friend or colleague. The basic tenants of PodCamp:

  • All attendees must be treated equally. Everyone is a rockstar.

  • All content created must be released under a Creative Commons license: http://creativecommon...

  • All attendees must be allowed to participate.

  • All sessions must obey the Law of 2 Feet - if you're not getting what you want out of the session, you can and should walk out and do something else. It's not like you have to get your money's worth!

  • The event must be new-media focused - blogging, podcasting, video on the net.

  • The financials of a PodCamp must be fully disclosed in an open ledger, except for any donor/sponsor who wishes to remain anonymous.

I have never been to an unconference before, and though I am not the most social person, I did get to interact in and listen to very in-depth debates and discussions. I'm a grad student, so this was a huge change from the shackles of academia that I am used to. In education, we talk about change and theorize about what a wonderful the world would be should it be implemented, but very few people are able to synthesize the thoughts and actualize it. Thus, I was very happy to have stepped out of my shell and to have driven 45 minutes to find a community of amazing people from different angles of life. Everyone seemed to have different dreams and goals, but were bound together somehow by this common thread called "social media." Thank you so much for such a great learning experience. I hope next time, I won't have to win the "quietest person" honor, and I will be able to interact with more of you.
