I have a working Antenna now that falls over when 'blown up" and I have learned a lot about the power stroke of approachably priced solenoids--it's only about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch. So, we will need a linear actuator to move the distances necessary to make a hand operated confetti canon work. Those are ~$300 for one you want and ~$170 for one you can tolerate for a little while. Then there is the control mechanism and associated mechanics. It has been made very clear to me that my sex life will come to a screeching halt if I pursue toys of that price!

One more dumb question: Do the guns we bring to this need to be within the crono limits that you guys require for your milsim games? My DMR is within limits, but is still capable of Full Auto and I didn't want to modify it until I get a CQB gun, and my L96 is shooting around 500 with .20's. If I have to order another Spring and try to jam it in before the class I will, but the fields I've been playing allow up to 550 for Snipers.

    July 21, 2013

    • Gemlee

500 FPS is within the norm when it comes to Sniper guns. However, your side arm (Pistol) should chrono < 400 FPS.

I would like to apologize now for the volume of information requested.
Please feel free to correct any discrepancies contained within

As I understand it, this is a one day (6hr) course that can support up to 20 individuals per day for a grand total of (potentially) 40 bodies through the course by weekend's end.
    Is that an accurate assessment?

    Also:
1)Top end for snipers is 490fps w/ .20g [according to RoE 3.1.3(b)], Yes? Any variance for Semi vs. Bolt or AEG vs. Gas vs. Spring? 2)Do I need to be recognized as part of a team to participate?

3)(If NO to #2)Are there other groups/fields outside of the Ft. Lewis-McChord Airsoft Group that will recognize this certification?

4)How often are events such as this offered and what kind of turnout is usually expected/encountered?

I am very interested in attending this event, but need to take care of a few things prior to committing and will likely wait until the last minute to RSVP.

    Thanks in advance,
    -Will Cornwell

    July 8, 2013

    • Gemlee

@MMech: We intend to have 20 operators per day. We will have a about 6 Cadre to assist. We are all Army Veterans/Active duty. Question #1 will be address by Grim Reaper for the weight of the BB can change the limitation of the FPS. Question#2 NO, you do not to be a member of any team to participate. Question#3 We have not address that with other group, but we do recognize certification with the following group (1st Sword/PRAT/7th Group/Spokane Airsoft). Question#4 Fort Lewis- McChord will offer this type of certification once a year only, I cant speak for the other group. Expect to have < 20 operators/candidates in any given time. And even less that actually qualify. Please note that despite the fact that we have real snipers spearheading the class..we do not intend to make you a real sniper in a single day, but rather teach a rudimentary subject as it can be applied to AIRSOFT. Hooahhh???

    July 7, 2013

  • Michael L.

Gemlee. In light of how much we enjoyed the instruction aspect of yesterday's event, we are interested in this event for the same reasons. Not sure if Iron Fist and I will be snipers anytime soon, but we would sure like to learn more if space is available. We just don't want to take up space for individuals that truly want to be snipers. I also hesitate because my son is only 12 and youth are often frowned upon in airsoft, but so far he seems to be received well by the other players.

    June 30, 2013

    • Andrew A.

As far as engagement distance and acclimation to there in, i will be going over all of that on the first day, as far as the FPS, 400 is the Standard across the board for .20 Gram BB's in any AEG regardless of whether or not its an LMG, SMG or Rifle. As far as a bolt action or DMR, i want to chrono the weapons with one mag of .20g and then depending on weapon, move up to a higher gram BB to suit the course.

      July 4, 2013

    • Andrew A.

Also note that the magnification in itself is pointless outside a range of 4x32, any farther and you are dealing with gas or high powered bolt action, which in turn i would recommend using a 16x40 fixed scope, all the same it is airsoft and you are not going to be pinpoint with every shot.
