I love to kayak. I also love to help others if I can. I want to combine these two passions and hold fundraising events on an ongoing basis. We will help non-profit organizations devoted to providing clean water to people and/or protecting our local waterways. I intend to create multiple fundraising events for organizations such as charitywater.org and local water preservation societies who are valid and viable 501(c)(3)'s and rate well (transparent and efficient use of funds) on the charity watchdog sites. This meetup group needs all kinds of support from media (spreading the word) to being there on event days to help ensure everything runs smoothly.
1. Is this going to cost me money? Are you asking me to donate?
Nope. I want your time, energy, skills, suggestions and ideas but you aren't going to give me a single dime. (If you want to bring bagels or something to one of the meetings, that would be great!)
2. Is this meetup a non-profit organization?
Nope...and we have no plans to be one. We want to help fund the dozens of existing organizations which exist already and prove efficient in preserving our waterways and providing fresh water to those in need. Any and all donations should be made to the non-profit organizations directly.
3. You mentioned something about a kayak. Do I need a kayak?
Nope. But if you have one and want to join in the fun, by all means, I'd be glad to paddle with you on our adventures and fundraising events.
4. So, Kurt...Why are you doing this?
I believe having clean water in a community is one of the simplest things to be done to help a community thrive, fend off a multitude of illnesses, and keep people happy and healthy. I am also an advocate for preserving our local waterways to allow continued access to gorgeous excursions. On any given weekend or lunch hour we can launch a boat or simply watch the view because we live within the DFW metroplex with the Trinity River and all of its wonderful lakes. Lets preserve that.
5. What kind of charities will we be supporting?
One of my favorites is charitywater.org but we will be helping many and various organizations, both local and international, all in the name of good, clean water and fun!
6. What do we do at meetings?
Plan events, discuss possible charities, meet & greet...and eat!
I look forward to meeting and working with you.
Kurt
