FREE Beginner Photography Workshop

This is our FREE beginner photography workshop. We will cover the basics of using your camera: what f-stop, shutter speed, and ISO do to create cool pictures. We will also teach some LIGHTING, POSING, and COMPOSITION concepts.  You'll learn how to create a blurry background or take pictures with little light or how to make your kids NOT blurry.  If you're wanting to know more about your new camera and how to take better, more professional looking pictures - this is a great workshop for you.

If you have a camera bring it! If you can learn how to adjust the F-stop, shutter speed, and ISO on your specific camera prior to the class - great! If you can't, we will teach you that night.

We will start right on time so be there! There may be a lot of people that want to get into this class and there may be a waiting list. If you get in and then are not able to make it, please cancel your RSVP through this website so someone else on the waiting list can make it in. The person on the waiting list will automatically be added and will receive an email notification. We love teaching these classes and are excited to do this.

This workshop will NOT be held at the studio.  It will be at Thanksgiving Point.

See you then!  I really like doing these workshops and hope you will love it.

Thank you for the class! Wonderful information!

And just because I wanted to know... the "f" in "f-stop" stands for focal ratio. It is the relationship of lens opening and focal length. For example, a 200 mm lens with aperture diameter of 50 mm has f-stop of f/4.

Hey! For anyone who was interested in Lightroom, amazon has a great deal on it right now if you don't have access to a student discount to use at acedemicsuperstore.com... Anyways, here is the link to amazons sale:

Thank you so much for the workshop! I loved learning all the technical as well as the stylistic tips too. I also loved the laid back informal way you taught Eric. It made it more interactive and I loved that. I'm hoping I can make it to the Lightroom workshop when you do the next one. I'm a Fotofly fan all the way around!

I practiced what was taught Saturday at a Sunday BBQ, the subjects in my pics and lighting turned out decent but my backgrounds are ruining the effect. Does anyone know can I blurr backgrounds in LightRoom or should I suck it up and buy the $2500 lense so I can lower my F stop?

Loved it, especially the first half where Eric taught photography basics and the why's behind them. It was the perfect balance of science nerdy, technical, and humorous.

So excited I finally get to come to a FotoFly Workshop! YAY! You guys are amazing to do this for us! Excited to learn how to use my camera beyond its point-and-shoot capabilities! I know I'll learn a lot. If anyone has any experience taking pictures at a ballet recital (stage lights, dark auditorium, etc), please share your tips with me! :)

I'm excited for this workshop! I inherited a Nikon D700 and a few lenses and really need to learn how to use them! So I'm guessing I should bring camera? And it's 4.5 hours so maybe pack a snack or something? Lol Sorry never been to a workshop like this before :P Thanks!

I am so sad I can't go. I have been waiting forever for this class but I have a family emergency come up. I will watch for the next one and hope that someone can now get to go that wasn't able to before.

    HI Eric,
I think I am on the waiting list, and am wondering when I might know whether or not I will actually be chosen to be in the seminar.
    Thank you,
    Nancy

Hey Nancy - sorry I didn't see this until now. I'm going to remind people to cancel if they cannot make it today and it may get you into the workshop. It's just a matter of how close to the top of the wait list you are. I'm crossing my fingers for you!

My friend is signed up to go with me and she has a 6 week old baby. Is it okay if she brings him? Also, what should we bring to the workshop? Camera?

    May 1, 2014

    • Eric

Hey Mindi - I think that's fine if she's okay with stepping out if her baby is making noise/distracting the group. I'm easily distracted myself... :)
