Hussam Hammo, cofounder of Tamatem games
I am from Jordan, and I have experience with creating the first major social network in the Arab world, before Facebook entered the market. I have 8 years of experience with social media and games in the Middle East.
I am the cofounder of Tamatem games, part of 500 startups. We are located in both Jordan and Mountain View. We are producing and developing localized games for the untapped Arabic mobile market, of 60 million smartphones and counting. The Arab world has one of the highest rates of mobile penetration in the world, with similar spending and downloading habits to the United States. Despite the growing usage of mobile in the region, less than 1% of all apps are available in Arabic, even though Arabic is the fourth most spoken language in the world. We want to change that. We are creating culturally sensitive games for the Arabic user.
We produce high quality mobile game apps for the untapped 60 million Arabic smartphone users. Less than 1% of all apps are available in Arabic, and the few apps in Arabic are very poor quality, but the region has one of the world's highest mobile penetration rates. We want to change this, creating high quality Arabic apps which are culturally relevant to the user. Our games are language intensive, since there it is little point of localizing games like Angry Birds, which do not require language abilities. We are focusing on casual and ultra casual games with high user interaction. Quiz and trivia games are becoming popular apps globally, challenging the mind and engaging users to challenge each other. It is difficult for the Arabic user to play complicated quiz games in English; add subtle cultural nuances, and the app is lost in translation to even users with proficient English. It doesn’t make sense for the Arabic user to play games that use language and cultural references unfamiliar them. We want to make these games and others available to the Arabic user, who is also hungry for content in their native language. By doing so, we are also re-popularizing the use of classical Arabic by encouraging users to engage in Arabic games with standard vocabulary in a fun but educational context.
I'm a IT-Student from Berlin/Germany currently making my BA.

William Choi, CEO of You're My Gift
CEO of You're My Gift. Business background. CMU Master of entertainment technology. Worked with Lockheed Martin.
You’re My Gift is a web service where people can get together to collectively purchase A GIFT for someone’s special day. Users can create gifting events for either themselves or their friends by registering ANY ITEMS available online since we’re using Amazon API. Then the events will be shared via social networking services so that more and more friends can see it and join to contribute. We almost completed beta version and had some user tests in the meanwhile. And we were able to see big smiles on the faces of recipients as well as contributors. That’s why we’re so convincing it is worth to make this successful and spread more. It’s You’re My Gift.

By incorporating photograph-based avatars into a conversation, the computer device’s screen could encourage people with autism to attend to faces for social-communicative cues. In fact, current research shows video modeling is an effective tool for teaching people with autism. But MIMICS is different: it features interactive video self-modeling, using animated self-avatars (digital characters which incorporate the user’s face). In our invention, the avatars serve as electronic diplomats – which pique the interest of people with autism and, thus, stimulate dialogue between neurotypical and autistic individuals.
